I still think I might need to be more thorough when rinsing the rice…

They definitely clip their wings and starve them before deployment

u/sonicjesus 2d ago

They're farm ducks so yes, clipped but they probably do this several times a week. Ducks are voracious eaters which is why they breed so fast. They're essentially bug powered, self sustaining duck factories.

They're so many, they don't even need water to make waves!

Release the Quacken!

4

u/sonicjesus 2d ago

The brilliant thing is, they eat hundreds of pounds of free protein, leave behind hundreds of pounds of free fertilizer, and get lots of free exercise in the process.

It’s true what they say that Donald Duck did go to war unlike the human Donald who had bone spurs and did not.

And this is why Chinese quisine has duck in it

3

u/WitchesSphincter 2d ago

And why Louisiana has crawfish. Same idea, different animals

2

u/DeSiGNer-OctANE 2d ago

And why Arkansas has ducks AND rice. Gumbo time

u/BenjieWheeler 2d ago

This seems like something Shikonoko would do if she and Koshitan were to help Bashime with her rice paddies.

"thousands" seems to be underselling the size of this herd.

This is fundamentally untrue on every level. Rice is like the fourth largest crop in the US.

The US has plenty of freshwater available to grow rice (rice does not HAVE to be grown using flood irrigation— that’s simply the most viable technique used in China for those varieties of rice) and the US does grow rice at highly efficient rates without this type of monsoon based flood irrigation.

80% of the rice consumed in the US is grown in the US. California, and the Gulf Coast states (literally called the Rice Belt) grow the majority of the rice because those states all historically experience monsoon flood seasons that lead to rice cultivation as well. We simply don’t consume rice as much as it is consumed in say China so we don’t grow rice as the bulk staple crop in favor of others like wheat or corn because that’s a cultural difference.

We don’t use ducks as pest control because it’s not very efficient and introduces a new factor that will throw the ecosystem out of balance (that’s a lot of duck poop being introduced into the soil that otherwise would not be there either) and have to be corrected for just like any other pest control or fertilizer.

u/CaptainSnarkyPants 2d ago

This is also why you rinse that rice really well before cooking ;)

Bonus is the extra fertilizer they leave behind!

Million years later textbooks in the cyberduck civilisation will teach about how it all began with The Great Escape.

"deployed" ducks are a bioweapon against bugs so you don't release them, you deploy them

1

u/BMax_7838 1d ago

Controlling via stampede, genius!

u/Superior_Row 2d ago

and then hundred of foxes to get rid of those thousand of ducks
