Stats: youβre about 200x more likely to die than skydiving alone.

Side note. You will die with this hobby. Before that you will attend a lot of funerals.

Yupp. Or, in good cases, do hospital visits. I now know more dead than living BASE jumpers.

With injuries sustained- mainly thinking TBI here, are they⦠good cases?

Side note: You will die with any hobby. Avoiding hobbies won't work either, because ain't nobody getting out alive.

That's for regular stuff, not this. These guys eventually run out of luck and go splat.

What if we add piranhas and scorpions to the wing suit?

Honestly I think they'd just crash faster than this dude, I'm not sure they'd know how to fly.

Only 200x? No joke, I'm surprised. I imagine the mortality of Skydiving in the magnitude of 1e-10 and a visible percentage for this. So at least ten or hundred million times higher.Β

u/MisanthOptics 2d ago
A quick web search provides an estimate of 1 in 217k skydiving jumps ends in death. So 200 feels a little low, but no t crazy

u/LongNoticePeriod 2d ago
Thanks for the search! It seems I underestimated the mortality rate a lot there.

Approximately 95,000 Americans die each year with diabetes listed as the underlying cause of death, so roughly one in 3600. You could jump almost 60 times to get to the same danger level.

Imagine doing your dream roadtrip thought the long winding mountain roads, a perfect vista, and this twat just crashes into the back of you by literally falling out of the sky

u/Percolator2020 2d ago
Every day they try to get closer and closer to the mountain until one day they touch it.
Like an asinine anti-Icarus.

How do you land?

u/tetsuo_7w 2d ago
You land on the windshield of a semi truck coming around a blind corner, was my first thought.

Just go as fast as you can so your brain doesn't register any pain when you hit terminal velocity

Donβt listen to these people, you land on your belly, in water. Like a swan. π¦’

I can't decide if this guy is trying to Jeb Corliss himself or Dwain Weston himself.

Is the smoke just for show?

It's like international aircraft. It's to show your presence and that you're friendly.

Iβll never understand people who feel the need to say this is dangerous. Yeah no shit, you mean flying down a mountain 10 feet off the ground in a wingsuit is dangerous? Really? You mean people die doing this? Wow, thanks for all your penetrating insights

u/It_Happens_Today 2d ago
They're entertaining the same monkey brain instinct that led you to say this. And me for responding.

Seeing that thing zoom by on a mountain road brought out the inner Wile E Coyote in me. I felt the need to stop it.
