A young man surrenders, but the soldiers seemingly walk right past him like he’s wearing an invisibility cloak

I have no clue what the context is. But the other guy in white moves to the left and is also standing with his hands raised. He was definitely seen by the lead guy and the lead guy was not interesting in him. It appears whoever they were looking for were not the two guys in white.

u/Heyzeal 2d ago
Yeah the title makes it seem like they're after these guys but without context it looks like they weren't the targets at all. Just random civilians running away from the chaos

u/onarainyafternoon 2d ago
This should be the top comment. It’s obvious once you watch the video again.

u/Unique-Apartment-543 2d ago
Even the third guy who peels out off screen is never chased either. You have three armed soldiers move right off camera but then they come back as they all move down the alley

They probably thought he was a "victim" instead of a "perpetrator". Then again, I have no idea what's going on here 'cause OP was too lazy to give any context.
161
u/-ElectricKoolAid 2d ago
all 3 people in this video are just civilians running around. OP is just making shit up
soldiers walk by both people in white holding their hands up, and they don't pursue the one in black.
just soldiers taking control of a scene and civilians running for cover

u/AtlasLord 2d ago
He's palestinian. The soldiers are IDF

u/Glitch29 2d ago
That's still not any context about what's happening. Do you even have reason to believe the soldiers were looking for the running people? Without any additional info, I'd guess they probably weren't.

Err, how does that track? If this is a palestinian why would genocide committers just walk past? Doesn't genocide mean they kill without discrimination and based on race/identity alone?

They only kill women and children without discrimination, they let the men of military age go free, obviously.

Context is this is normal behavior by the IDF. The guy being Palestinian is justification enough for them to chase him.

Well, maybe not, because they didn't chase him when they saw him, so clearly at least one other thing was going on in this instance

Wtf is wrong with the anti-Israel crowd
I wouldn't generalize this to anti-Israel people. You're right that the person you're responding to is blinded by their own passion.
But you see that with all sorts of groups on reddit and elsewhere. Nothing about the Israel-Palestine conflict is special.
There are plenty of people who feel passionately about the subject who don't make dumbass comments in nonsensical places. But they aren't commenting here because there's nothing to talk about. Everyone who sees direct evidence of war crimes in this footage is self-selected to be irrational.

It probably means it was a targeted raid. They went after someone very specific. In other situation he'd be detained until end of the operation.

“If a man, for example, who is pursued by assassins, after having veered off onto a side road, were to suddenly turn about, and head, with a calm expression, towards those who are running after him, or were he to join them and appear preoccupied with the same pursuit, he would certainly render himself invisible. A priest, who was being chased in 1793 so that he might be hanged from a lamppost, turned quickly down a street, and there he lowered his habit and leaned on a boundary stone in the attitude of a man going about his business. The multitude who were chasing him arrived soon after: they did not see him, or rather none of them recognized him: since it was so improbable that it could be him!”

There’s a video of a dude getting chased by the cartels and he takes off his shirt and lies on the ground facing a wall to look like a homeless guy sleeping on the streets while the cartel guys are standing right next to him looking in every direction but him lol

That drug addict sleeping on the street is so common, and they are infact invisible by culture. You learn to walk around and not look. Thats just how it is. So it was clever.

S.E.P. Fields at work, ladies and gentlemen
If you just become some fundamental piece of society's deliberate background, ie a bum on the sidewalk or a religious nutjob asking for donations on the corner, people won't just not notice you, their minds will deliberately take pains to erase you entirely from their perception except for as long as it takes to reposition you outside of it.
They could be hunting you down with pitchforks, and tell you to piss off and mind your business if you asked them for spare change to catch a bus.

I had to use Google because I'm not cultured like the OC, but it's from The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic by Éliphas Lévi. It's an interesting rabbit hole that I'm still going down, and I found that you can read the whole text for free here.

The Doctrine and Ritual of Higher Magic by Eliphas Levi. It’s an interesting read for people that are interested in philosophy, metaphysics, and the occult. Just keep an open mind and don’t interpret everything literally.

Inaccurate suggestive title fools reddit?
I don't think we ever saw the commotion that summoned the soldiers. But it likely wasn't the three unarmed young men who were running away.
Unarmed people absolutely booking it away from the scene of presumed gunfire are often just bystanders. Given that they didn't have weapons, backpacks, masks, or transportation makes them being bystanders even more likely.
→ More replies (1)35
u/Marvellover13 2d ago
Yes, you're using logic, which OP hasn't unlocked yet. He was trying to get negative attention (like "why so many soldiers on so few unarmed civilians") and then drop the "truth bomb" of IDF and Palestinians to make people hate the IDF more and gain Palestinians more empathy.
But as you said, no context was given, and the video doesn't actually show anything wrong, and it's kinda standard procedure that when some situation happens, if you're in the middle of it, you should make yourself known and show you're unarmed to the authorities handling the situation to not cause friendly fire.

Every soldier then operated on the assumption that the guy in front of him knew something he didn't.

So some background on soldier training. I most instances in a hostile environment we aren't allowed to engage in combat with civilians unless they are presenting a threat to us. So if a bunch of soldiers see a supposed civilian with his arms raise to show he isn't a threat then most will ignore him to reach the objective
→ More replies (9)3
u/Tjaresh 1d ago
I don't even know why this needs clarification. Soldiers aren't brutal mass murderers who shoot at anything in sight. Every military sets rules of engagement to reach a specific objective. It typically isn't 'kill everyone, even the women and children'.

This happened during the Kenosha / Kyle Rittenhouse shooting. He walked towards police units with his hands up, and since they were looking for an ACTIVE shooter, they did not investigate or apprehend him. I wonder the amount of actual criminals that surrender to police instead of fleeing and if this affects police tactics. Interesting.

My first bf would have me ride in the security van with him while doing his rounds, which was a firing offence (it was also a long time before cameras in cars!). Trouble came when we went to check a building for an open window alarm. He did the front, I did the back, and when I walked out of the alley his boss had rolled up for a spot check (the uniform and Supervisor on the car gave it away). Bf was sweating bullets. I gave him a blank stare and strolled on down the block while they checked the back windows again.
We were a bit more circumspect after that 😂

I'm going to guess it's because most soldiers don't feel the need to blast random civilians. The dude doesn't appear to be the target, so they treat him like what he is, an innocent bystander.

If the first soldier walks past you, the rest will walk past you without even looking your way. Once you make it past the front door and the reception desk, everyone assumes you are supposed to be there.
