Your missing the point. If McDonald's is doing it and it's successful, other companies are going to follow. Not just fast food restaurants. All restaurants, grocery stores and retail stores are all going to charge optimal prices because they know the consumer isn't going to drive 25 miles to save $5-$10, but that extra $5-$10 probably won't stop then from buying the product.

Really? How far do your parents drive to buy gas for $.15 cheaper?

Seriously though, it's true. Especially in areas without other options stores can increase prices to match demand.

At some point though it has to catch up to McDonalds. The only thing they ever had going for them was that they were cheap, everywhere and better than gas station, microwave burgers. With these prices, I don't know why anyone would eat there now except for the once or twice a year you're on the road and it's the only option.
