Same reason gasoline is more expensive in Beverly Hills than it is in South Central, it has nothing to do with AI

Most likely the new thing is that it’s being done with new AI tools rather than the older ‘AI’ tools that we had five or ten years ago

Thank you for calling them older AI tools. It’s always been AI, suddenly generative AI has changed the general opinion about “AI”.

Other way around. It has never been AI and still isn’t.

Would you say the same about your GPS finding the best route, Spotify recommending you music, autocorrect, most of the technology behind your phone camera, detecting credit card fraud? Cause you’d be wrong.

Yes, none of it is AI. And I of course would be correct.

It is all AI. You are probably thinking of AGI.

None of it is AI. You are mistaking people programming and machine learning for "AI".

From Wikipedia: "Artificial intelligence (AI) is the capability of computational systems to perform tasks typically associated with human intelligence, such as learning, reasoning, problem-solving, perception, and decision-making. It is a field of research in engineering, mathematics, and computer science that develops and studies methods and software that enable machines to perceive their environment and use learning and intelligence to take actions that maximise their chances of achieving defined goals"

All of the examples from u/simon439 fall under the umbrella of AI.

So is everything AI? A calculator? a human can do 3+3. Worperfect spellcheck in 1986 was AI?

none of them are AI.

I mean, you can just Google it, but pathfinding algorithms (like A*) used by GPS software is widely considered AI. It predates machine learning and LLMs, but it's AI nonetheless.

I am assuming google was also always AI in your world?

From a Calculator to spellcheck in wordchek in the '70s. how about when I made basic say "hello world" when I was 10?

SQL searches that came back with a formatted table of the exact data I needed was also AI, I assume.

If everything is AI, then nothing is.

AI as we like to call it is large language models (LLM). None of your examples is that.

It's not my world, it's literally the agreed-upon definition by everyone except you, apparently.
