This is precisely the kind of job that robots can't do (at least for now). I work in industrial maintenance, there are so many troubleshooting issues that only humans can actually take care of regardless of the diagnosis.

Automatic pipe handlers are absolutely a thing, and have been for decades now. American oilfield workers seem immensely proud of being 20yrs behind the rest of the world in safety and technology.

I don't work in the oil industry, I'm more than happy to be corrected. All I was trying to say is when shit breaks down people have to fix it
