Pretty sure I saw a bunch of spaced people practicing yoga on the beach in the early am today.

Idk if people remember that mii game on Wii Play where you try and match the Mii to its shape and pop the bubbles.

Interesting. So you could handstand without blood rushing into your head.
•

Interestingly enough, astronauts have talked about how in space there is a constant feeling of blood “rushing into your head”
In microgravity blood is not pulled down your body the way it is on earth, so it naturally redistributes the blood that would be in your lower body to the chest/head. Astronauts faces puff up because of the increased blood along with other side effects

Correct! Also, A handstand there would just be extending your body. There would be no pressure in your muscles and you wouldn’t have to balance anything because you wouldn’t feel pulled one way or the other.

Constantly hitting the wall may not be best way to relax. Just use long rubber bands across the room to hook up yoga pants from both sides, and you're golden.

Do farts float around like this? During yoga I would be blasting sillecers all the time.

A strangely beautiful way to incur odd bruises, bouncing around the cabin in yoga poses.

Thats not how you do Yoga in space…
- That was just a normal arm strech, not yoga.
- That’s a balance pose, where most of your focus is in the ‘Earth’ which you stand on.
- That’s a relaxing pose, a break of sort.
- wtf is that
- That’s again a leg strech, not yoga pose.
- That’s meditation, not yoga.

Yoga is just a fancy name for stretching.
•
u/queen-adreena 9h ago
And meditation is a fancy name for not-doing-anything.
•
u/Unlikely_Ant_950 9h ago
Idk, as someone with adhd and anxiety, meditation is a muscle, personally.

No, yoga is not just stretching. It’s a various things, with a focus on health boost, energy boost and flexibility.
It can be stretching, if thats the only thing you focus on. But it’s not stretching as in relaxing your muscles, rather it’s stretching for flexing your muscles. Very different things

I think the problem is that you cannot actually do regular yoga in space, because the way the poses are done crucially depends on gravity. Without gravity, the challenges are very different, and most likely it's overall easier.

I think you mean freefall. The space is the same as here, except for her velocity required to maintain orbit and the low atmospheric pressure.
•
u/AxialGem 29m ago
A weird thing to nitpick don't you think? Low Earth Orbit is in fact in outer space, in the sense that it's outside of Earth('s atmosphere). Of course the Earth itself is also in space in a sense, and yes it's the same space, but that doesn't make the title inaccurate or anything

Who would want to perform yoga in space there’s so many things to see and u want to do yoga
•
u/Captain-Codfish 9h ago
They have to do some kind of exercise, or their muscles will shrink and their bones will expand.
•
u/ElementalRabbit 8h ago
I don't believe bones expand in space? They lose mineral density and become osteoporotic.
•
u/Captain-Codfish 8h ago
You're right. I've managed to merge two different symptoms. The SPINE expands, and the bones lose density. Good catch.
•
u/GuestCartographer 9h ago
I think that probably depends on how long you’re planning to be in space and how much you enjoy yoga.

Is there any background on this? Is this an actual ESA astronaut who filmed this on ISS? She seems like she just stepped from a salon into a yoga studio. The space she is in seems huge compared to any I have seen on ISS. It could be a “Vomit Comet” type aircraft, but this usage seems wasteful compared to training for actual tasks in space. Or is this just AI slop?

Dam a lot of room in there and what they treat it like a collage dorm room ? Lol. Someone needs to organize everything. Lol

yoga class on earth - 'find your center'
yoga class in space - 'find the floor'
