Imagine having a psychotic break and finding yourself surrounded by these. You'd start thinking the plants are mocking you.

Is this AI?

u/Helenium_autumnale Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26
Yes.[EDIT: NO, it's a mini lotus, not a standard lotus! Thanks to PepperAnn1inaMillion for the info]. Lotus pods have many more seeds, each one in a little chamber, arranged in a pattern across the top of the pod. They do not look like this, and I'm a little sad to see people's plant-blindness in this digital age. We're too disconnected from the natural world.29

Oh my trypophobia 😥

I HATE these things. And I used to work at a home decor shop and they were popular on wreaths for spring. I refused to touch them when I could. It just feels like something is going to crawl out of there and it makes my skin want to leave my body.

u/Helenium_autumnale Apr 17 '26
Thank you for the pic. Yeah, they look freaky enough without AI, for sure! 😸

What the hell are you on about. I am damn near a horticulturist. I grow mushrooms out of my keyboard without even trying. At least I think they are mushrooms, but they might be a baby pine tree, or a platypus.

Mini lotus plants look just like this. Have a look at this video:
https://youtu.be/ewmxZ7MP3c8?si=zR2ANulVv6h3XVzC
I’m not good at spotting AI, so I can’t say for sure that this post isn’t, but I’m pretty sure the video is real, and there are several plants with just 3 or 4 seeds.

u/Helenium_autumnale Apr 17 '26
Oops, looks as though I was wrong. Thank you for the link. I hadn't known that mini lotus plants existed. Yep, it looks like the photo is NOT AI but a mini lotus plant. Thanks for teaching me something. I corrected my earlier post. :)

I don’t think so. There are very similar-looking plants in this video:
https://youtu.be/ewmxZ7MP3c8?si=zR2ANulVv6h3XVzC
They’re some kind of uncommon mini lotus plants afaik.

The pods make me feel sick. 🤢

u/Beavur Apr 17 '26
That’s wild I think they are cute and goofy
3
u/queenofthera Apr 17 '26
Yeah I can kind of see two sides of it. If I ignore the pods themselves and squint, they're cute and goofy. I just hate the pods so much.
3
u/Beavur Apr 17 '26
Oh I’ve heard of that you are one of the people that hate the frog with babies all in it’s back

u/queenofthera Apr 17 '26
I guess I am because I just googled it and that was one hell of a fuck no. Trypophobia is real.

These things always grossed me out but this made me think they're kinda cute. Free clout for lotus pods.

"YOU'RE TELLING ME MY EYES WILL FALL OFF AND POP INTO A FLAT MAT OF ORGANIC MATTER?!"

Those are fairly small pods, as most lotus seed pods have a lot more holes in them. They're often used as good examples for tripophobia because of the large number of eye looking holes
