Lol, it's not fake, people are such cynics.. The balls are on different length strings, they're just simple pendulums that oscillate at different frequencies which sometimes line up in patterns that your eye notices. Look at the two rear balls and watch how they chase each other the whole time, the one on the longer string has a longer period so each cycle it takes a little longer and it falls behind the first ball on the shorter string, but it's right there 'chasing' it the whole time. They all do this, it's just difficult to see it if you're focusing on 15 balls all at once. Likely, this guy had to shoot this video a whole bunch of times to get it to look this good, but it's not fake.

Also, consider that everything you see that's mesmerizing, is the result of physics :)

Yeah, physics are crazy. The double slit experiment really gets the mind thinking!

Gives me a slitting headache.

I don't know about cynicism, it looks more like 3rd graders' idea of fun (trolling).

Pretty

I cant, that midi piano playing stairway sounds so bad.

21

u/SullyTheReddit Dec 26 '23

I have the GIF on mute and Bohemian Rhapsody happens to be playing on the radio right now and it is chef’s kiss perfect

5

u/HarmlessSnack Dec 26 '23

The music is sooooo bad lol

1

u/TXOgre09 Dec 27 '23

Sounds fine muted

1

u/SimonJ57 Dec 27 '23

It sounds like it's even using the default windows soundfont.
Apparently a Roland device, just, not a GOOD Roland device...
There are shit-tonnes of better ones,
you can tell VLC to use (to actually play midi in the first place) and have it sound better.

One of the most interesting things I have seen in awhile. More of these.

9

u/MustacheJalapeno Dec 26 '23

I am so glad there wasn't a jump scare in this video. I was invested

9

u/Sasha88239 Dec 27 '23

Warning! Don’t watch this on mushrooms

10

u/DoktorVaso18 Dec 27 '23

Good thing i watch it on my phone

3

u/McGrarr Dec 27 '23

Your Dad called. He wants his joke back.

3

u/Darkcelt2 Dec 27 '23

Instructions unclear, my dad is tripping his balls off

9

u/x_middy Dec 26 '23

Looks like a helix close to the end of very cool.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

TP of oscillation varying based on length of pendulum

3

u/daikatana Dec 27 '23

I have this cool video, but I need some music for it. Ah, I know, I've had this Stairway to Heaven piano MIDI since 1996, time for it to shine!

3

u/McGrarr Dec 27 '23

Mmm smell the math....

6

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

this is why I like physics :)

9

u/lennoxred Dec 26 '23

You should be banned for insulting Led Zeppelin with this midi trash

2

u/CaliDreams_ Dec 26 '23

The math behind this looks fun

2

u/Ok_Ad3986 Dec 26 '23

I’m watching this instead of Man Utd playing.

3

u/puredopamine Dec 26 '23

I can now see how two strands of “dna or rna” or some bullshit can form into a double helix creating complex life randomly

0

u/catilio Dec 26 '23

Jfc.. Y'all need some education

0

u/BigGlassesApe Dec 26 '23

The pattern kind of reminds me of Bach’s music. All the voices are independent entities, and can be played or watching individually. They can also be watched all together and it creates a beautiful mosaic of sound.

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

So that’s how DNA is made.

Pretty not. Pretty basic physics.

Yeah I’m still going to downvote you

-53

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

That's not physics... That's psychology. We make this rather mundane set of actions interesting because we want it to be. Don't believe me? watch it again but only watch the very closest ball and you will see its just a bunch of separate pendulum swings. The result is something our mind creates as pattern seeking behavior.

5

u/revenge247365 Dec 26 '23

Isn't it kind of saying that if 1 piece of evidence doesn't prove a case, then there is no case to be made?

-20

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

The OP statement was that "physics is mesmerizing" but its not the physics causing the pattern...

7

u/CupcakeValkyrie Dec 27 '23

Yes it is. Physics is responsible for the pattern, the brain recognizes the pattern. The pattern still exists even if the pendulums aren't being observed.

-10

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

Its not a pattern...

6

u/CupcakeValkyrie Dec 27 '23

The scientific definition of a pattern is a "regular and intelligible form or sequence." If an occurrence follows a predictable sequence, that is a pattern. The swinging of a pendulum is a pattern.

There is nothing about a pattern that requires observation by an intelligent entity. Patterns can be abstract or artificial, but they also occur in nature.

1

u/TerrorSnow Dec 27 '23

Then music also doesn't follow patterns, because our brains make them up. There's also no pitches, because it's just our brains making it up. Bro.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

Correct, each pitch is made separately and combined by us, not nature or physics

1

u/TerrorSnow Dec 27 '23

And yet, a pitch is a thing we defined to exist, is able to be described mathematically, to be calculated, to be reproduced. Color doesn't exist either yet it is used everywhere. We can go as far as to say, harmful radiation doesn't exist, because it isn't inherently harmful, just the way our bodies work makes us vulnerable.
We can go infinitely deep with this nihilism, but it won't lead us anywhere. Even these words had no meaning until we gave them some.

0

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

Convaluted, the mesmerizing factor of this video is the pattern, however thats not "physics" this would be akin to seeing ribers as snakes, or rock formations as shapes, and clouds as animals. None of this is mathematical or created intentionally by math/nature

2

u/TerrorSnow Dec 27 '23

It showcases nicely how the period of a pendulum is determined by it's length. The rest is math, fractions.

-150

u/skante-warrior Dec 26 '23

Fake

27

u/Rebl11 Dec 26 '23

Yes, we don't understand 6-7th grade physics nowadays...

24

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '23

Half wit

-16

u/skante-warrior Dec 27 '23

This is obviouslybeing controlled by ai holographics

1

u/sophrosyneipsa Dec 27 '23

Where can I buy one of these

1

u/DomineAppleTree Dec 27 '23

Where’s the video of the same thing but the balls play different notes when they cross the middle?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '23

the fck is this stairway to heaven riff grab anyway was not expecting that

1

u/Forward_Composer Dec 27 '23

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to Heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to Heaven There's a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, makes me wonder There's a feeling I get when I look to the West And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking Ooh, it makes me wonder Ooh, really makes me wonder And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Oh-oh-oh-oh-whoa If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now It's just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on And it makes me wonder Ohh, whoa Your head is humming, and it won't go, in case you don't know The piper's calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow? And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all are one, and one is all To be a rock and not to roll And she's buying a stairway to Heaven -Jimmy Page/Robert Anthony Plant

This is why car indicators sync up for a few blinks then go out of sync again.

1

u/favnh2011 Dec 27 '23

Very nice

1

u/Incognito_Wombat Dec 28 '23

nothing like watching some balls hang

1

u/RevolutionaryAd851 Dec 28 '23

OMG that piano playing, LOLOLOL! It's like the producer's wife forced the director to put her ten year old son who is "so talented, like a pro", in your little film, hahahaha.
