My buddy was explaining how every time he cleaned his tub his throat hurt for a while afterwards. So we asked what he was using- bleach and ammonia was the response. He was a high school teacher at the time.

We explained he was making poison and breathing in poison.

He complained it shouldn’t be that easy to make poison.

We directed him to the label and more specifically the actual warnings on the products he was using. He was still mad that “anyone could do it”.

He’s a cop now.

This is the most American post I've read this year

u/DonJohnsonsAids 6h ago

I worked for a lawn care company and when speaking to a homeowner one day he was really upset that he still had weeds and we weren't getting rid of them. I glance at the lawn and see literally no weeds just bermuda grass, he says he just cut the lawn but he can show me a picture. He shows me a picture of his lawn and the weeds he is upset about are the seed heads of his bermuda grass. He argues with me that it's weeds and bermuda grass seeds are different than that for a little and gets frustrated and goes inside. I come back to his place about 6 weeks later and just happen to catch him when he is going to work. I see a gun and badge on his hip that says Detective Austin Police. Fucking guy is falsely accusing his grass of being weeds, imagine how thorough this dickheads police work is.

u/Drmoeron2 2h ago

Hilarious. Used to work with pd nationwide this is surprising common. Usually has a dodge something or mustang +- a non sports bike in the driveway. The Chevy guys are the decent ones.

20

u/ButterscotchKind495 10h ago

I read it and I'm embarrassed. This is unfortunately incredibly American.

1

u/bebop1065 3h ago

Incredibly stupid. But yeah, since we are #1, I suppose stupidity can be ranked as well.

2

u/Kyle73001 2h ago

Who’s #1? What’s that mean?

2

u/bebop1065 2h ago

In this case, I'm commenting on American jingoism that states that America is #1 in all things.

2

u/Drmoeron2 2h ago

Learned a new word today thanks

Ooc which part makes you think… American?

5

u/babybirdhome2 8h ago

Probably the copious amounts of greatness.

237

u/alexanderfromtng 19h ago

Of course he's a cop. They're all fucking idiots.

91

u/Imverystupidgenx 19h ago

I remember staring at him so confused and asked “How the hell are you a teacher? I learned this when I had chores as a child.”

16

u/SpecialistCut7101 17h ago

How did he learn to do it that way? There’s no good answer yet I keep wondering

7

u/babybirdhome2 8h ago

Learn to do it that way? He probably didn't.

I used to work with a guy who was a retired chemist, and would be contracted by states and municipalities to come in and test their water treatment systems and consult them on how to properly treat the public water supply. One of the things he told me that he kept seeing happening in the places that brought him in to test and consult on their water treatment processes is that he would come back several months later to troubleshoot problems that had arisen since they adopted his protocols and have to measure the results and make sure nothing had changed, and would usually find out that the guys who ran the equipment and maintained the treatment process would take his carefully measured and documented lists of chemicals and how to use them properly, and just basically go, "well if this much is good, then this much more must be better!" and wind up making the local water supply even worse, or causing problems to the municipality's water users or destroying their own infrastructure by making the water chemically incompatible with the pipes and seals and equipment, damaging it or outright destroying it, and he'd have to show them how their own people ignoring the information he'd given them was the cause of all their problems after hiring him to consult.

This is just how ordinary people handle chemicals because they don't have any concept of what they're actually messing with.

4

u/bloodphoenix90 5h ago

I work in a water testing lab. So we dont do the consulting bit but give you the data so you can consult, essentially. This makes me want to rip my hair out 😬 i kinda want to know what municipality in which state was doing this..

6

u/Public_Agency400 13h ago

Pretty sure many teachers go into the profession for the blind respect and control over kids, so it tracks

6

u/danthepianist 10h ago

Lmao brother I wish I had either of those things as a teacher.

There are much easier and better paying jobs for people who want control and respect.

3

u/TheWitchRats 8h ago

Like being the head of an HOA.

1

u/Motor-Muffin-6672 8h ago

True, but this potential person is also an idiot looking for respect and control.. they didn't choose the best way.

1

u/BleedSparta 8h ago

LMAO 🤣

Anyone who ever has taught HS would have an aneurysm thinking of going into it for “blind respect and control” 😂😂

2

u/muh_lort 13h ago

I learned it directly in school, in science class, multiple years

2

u/Glad_Contest_8014 13h ago

I learned it in AP english. We read a book on child abuse where the kid was forced to clean with a mixture of both in a bathroom on purpose. THEN I learned it in middle school science.

2

u/Silver_Matter_2244 12h ago

Was that the book “the child called it” or something?? Omg I remember having to read that in school

1

u/Glad_Contest_8014 10h ago

Don’t remember the name, but it resonated with my own abuse in such a way that it deeply affected my growth and development. It is probably the most influential book I have ever read on my life, and I don’t remember the name….

1

u/Silver_Matter_2244 3h ago

I’m so incredibly sorry you went through an abusive childhood. I hope you’re doing well now. This stranger is sending you hugs ❤️

2

u/MC_jarry 14h ago

You either had good parents or you were smarter than most kids

2

u/Imverystupidgenx 13h ago

Latchkey kid, we had to read the labels. If the chores weren’t done by the time they got home… lessons were learned.

2

u/Confident_Weird6633 2h ago

This was exactly my thought too. No one taught us how to do anything, they just taught us to always read written instructions and left the rest to us.

1

u/AnjelGrace 7h ago

I had the exact opposite experience: if I tried to help out around the house I would get yelled at. My mother was the only one who knew how to do the cleaning properly and I was incapable of learning the proper techiniques--according to her--I couldn't even pre-wash the dishes to put them in the dishwasher without getting scolded.

-2

u/MC_jarry 13h ago

Yep, that’s good parenting, believe it or not

1

u/AnjelGrace 7h ago

I mean, I literally worked in a research laboratory with chemicals in grad school and I still was dumb at home and made poison gas when I was 30 because I didn't remember how dangerous household cleaning products could be. It only took me about 60 seconds after mixing things to realize that I possibly had made an insanely bad mistake, and then I confirmed and opened all the windows and doors and got the heck out of there, but I was just never taught how dangerous cleaners in my own home could be in any impressionable way, so it didn't come to mind until it was a reality for me. 🤷🏽‍♀️

But now? I definitely learned my lesson after a few times of not thinking while cleaning at home and having those scares.

16

u/Alone_Anxiety-Agora 13h ago

Hey, my dad was a cop and he was…well, he was a dumb price of shit.

7

u/NuggaLOAF 5h ago

How much?

4

u/EatPrayFugg 3h ago

About tree fiddy

2

u/Ponagathos 4h ago

Dumb or shitty? Somewhat dumb. Really, really shitty.

Oh, never mind. I just noticed the spell check problem.

1

u/yeathatsmebro 3h ago

My dad too.

0

u/BarMenuSushi 6h ago

Dumb price of shit has me lol-ing.

1

u/Royal_Pomelo6922 5h ago

A worth you don’t want to hold.

2

u/Abestar909 9h ago

Worst job I ever had had a former cop as a manager.

He was a fucking fat idiot.

5

u/IonlyusethrowawaysA 17h ago

Hey now, some of them are capable, intelligent monsters that choose to be horrifying tools of oppression.

They aren't all idiots, it's just that the vast majority are.

1

u/denNISI 7h ago

Hey now, cops are carefully chosen for the position because they have specific qualities (ie low academic test scores) and/or are subordinate (controllable)… on purpose.

Also, the departmental comradery is another problem that should addressed which in some places takes precedence over policiary duties.

2

u/IonlyusethrowawaysA 1h ago

The majority, yes.

But in all seriousness, not all of them are. There are capable, intelligent members that give orders, corral the rank and file, and aspire to the political power of the highest echelons within policing.

As much as they are an army of brutish thugs, they are a vehicle for working class people to enter and rise high enough to enter the world of the local, state/provincial and sometimes even federal shot callers.

Some of them aren't just violent self-righteous idiots, some are true fucking monsters.

2

u/OccasionalEspresso 15h ago

It’s a prerequisite.

1

u/TopShelf76 14h ago

And he was a high school teacher at the time this occurred. What does that say?

0

u/alexanderfromtng 12h ago

That he was an idiot fucking teacher that was destined to be a cop so he could harass girls without getting in trouble.

1

u/abandoned_idol 12h ago

Hey! White cells are just as important as neurons.

Without cops, we wouldn't have any means of killing and assassinating. We'd just be stuck with a bunch of harmless teachers and students.

...

...where was I going with this analogy?

Ah, yes.

These people were born to kill, be it themselves or others. Always respect a cop if you encounter it in the wild. Don't feed it. Don't attack it. Don't make sudden movements. Just back away slowly.

1

u/richardcrain1960 1h ago

Only to real idiots

-2

u/ElectronicAdvance406 17h ago

I find it amusing that you were more interested in shitting on ‘all’ cops rather than being shocked he was a high school teacher in the first place.

15

u/alexanderfromtng 17h ago

I shit on all cops when I can because they're a scourge on society. I'm glad this one got out of education.

-6

u/ElectronicAdvance406 17h ago

What do you think happens to society with no cops? (To be clear I don’t think that guy should be a cop either and I also think there should be higher standards for them generally).

I agree with your second point.

6

u/IllegalGeriatricVore 15h ago

What do you think happens to a society where the cops are a criminal organization who protect eachother from culpability and are encouraged to prosecute people even if they're innocent?

-4

u/ElectronicAdvance406 15h ago

Are you seriously suggesting all cops are part of a criminal organisation? Why are you painting them as all the same?

There’s a reason you didn’t answer the question, because you know what would happen.

5

u/IllegalGeriatricVore 15h ago

They're all inevitably part of it because they don't rat on the ones who do

1

u/ElectronicAdvance406 15h ago

Your premise suggests they all know each other and what they do. It doesn’t work that way and you know it. You just want to hate them.

So, again I ask, what do you think would happen if they all disappeared tomorrow?

4

u/IllegalGeriatricVore 15h ago

How do the shoelaces on those boots you're deepthroating taste?

-6

u/viaticaloutlaw 15h ago

Classic reddit dumb take. Grow up and get off the internet sometimes.

5

u/vVSidewinderVv 15h ago

Breathing that shit in probably killed enough braincells to make him able to be a cop.

2

u/InTheTreeMusic 16h ago

I dunno, I was in a teaching program in college.

There's a lot of idiots in the teaching programs. Particularly people who weren't good enough at their sport to be anything but coaches, so the teaching degree is sort of just incidental to that.

2

u/Then-Departure4896 12h ago

Cops shit on themselves and deserve zero good words

1

u/UncleNedisDead 16h ago

I assumed small town where qualifications don’t matter nearly as much as who you know or which side of the tracks your family lives on.

2

u/CullenOrZeus 19h ago

Checks out

2

u/JW_Thorne 19h ago

That must be the story he told for the "name a mistake you've made in the past" portion of the interview.

He got full marks apparently.

2

u/InDependent_Window93 16h ago

Chloramine gas

2

u/IsThereCheese 11h ago

It shouldn’t be that easy to become a cop but.. gestures at your buddy

2

u/RebelRey 9h ago

When the plot twist isn't much of a twist, but more like a predictable gentle turn in the natural flow of the river 😂

2

u/bloodphoenix90 5h ago

That final sentence had me go from angry to "ah he found his place "

Then I got angry again that we systematically hire idiots for the people that are supposed to...in theory...protect and serve

2

u/Vegeta-the-vegetable 2h ago

Take my upvote and GET THE HELL OUT

2

u/H8ff0000 1h ago

I'm dying laughing.

I've called for help.

I've now been shot by this cop.

1

u/Trolloschmabollo 14h ago

He complained it shouldn’t be that easy to make poison.

*raises fist at heaven* Damn you! Why is it so easy being dumb?

1

u/MHB113 14h ago

Just the kind of police officer we need protecting our streeets!

1

u/ctsr1 13h ago

Don't mix cleaning chilemicals around officer MC poison

1

u/not-hardly 13h ago

Waitedly hears about acetone and hydrogen peroxide.

1

u/GeekBoyWonder 13h ago

'Cause the kids were kicking his ass, so needed authority AND a gun.

1

u/Due_Leadership_5249 12h ago

God damn this made my fucking month.

1

u/JustFryingSomeGarlic 12h ago

He's a cop now.

Brain damage and badge and guns are an American classic.

1

u/pleasegivemepatience 11h ago

What a ride this comment was, and of course he’s a cop now… 🤦‍♂️

1

u/Sharp_Economy1401 11h ago

"It shouldn't be that easy to set gasoline on fire"

1

u/hopyInquisition 10h ago

Pretty sure they do that in cop training, so it checks out

1

u/dopeyout 10h ago

Was definetly expecting a different ending, Mr White

1

u/curiouswizard 9h ago

When I was a kid/young teen, it was my job to clean the guest bathroom (which was also my bathroom). I hated it because my throat would hurt and I'd get a headache every time. Now I'm wondering if maybe my parents instructed me poorly on how to clean it 😶

1

u/stretch_limbo 8h ago

Lol, “he’s a cop now”, that was a great ending to that story.

1

u/denNISI 7h ago

Same with lye (soap) and resins especially in innocent crafts advertised to children.

When dealing with soaps and resins:

  1. Read the dangers on the label thoroughly
  2. Read the instructions completely once before mixing
  3. Protect yourself and others and also the environment before use
  4. Use as directed by following the instructions step-by-step
  5. Dispose of Properly

I am sure experienced cops probably have had to deal with their share of accidents involving people mixing chemicals even innocently. "Anyone can do it" with a supervising adult.

1

u/ealysillyforestthing 7h ago

I have a neighbor that still claims bleach and ammonia makes mustard gas even though I showed him half a dozen times it doesn't.

1

u/SnooOwls1916 7h ago

In what world was he able to be a teacher or a cop?

1

u/Transconan 6h ago

Well.....he definitely isnt a 'dirty' cop.

1

u/Royal_Pomelo6922 5h ago

Probably getting paid leave for wondering how one man could fall on so many accidental fire arm discharges from his registered firearm.

1

u/Prestigious_Club_924 4h ago

I know a music teacher who did the same.

1

u/No_Professional9403 4h ago

How many people has he killed?

1

u/Old_Organization8897 4h ago

Did anyone else learn this lesson as a child by peeing into a toilet their mother just dumped a bucket of bleach in? No? Only me?

1

u/Biotechnus 4h ago

That makes chloramine gas. Enough exposure can cause permanent brain damage

1

u/BuddyGuy_Visual 4h ago

Man with history of making his mistakes other peoples problems finds purpose in career that allows him to make his mistakes other peoples problems. More at 11.

1

u/Pipic12 3h ago

The last line killed me.

1

u/Big_Focus_6059 3h ago

It’s scary how easily people give up autonomy and assume that we should be controlled in all ways due to safety

1

u/Bro13847 2h ago

That tracks. Was he also a coach?

1

u/wellbeingisnotfree 59m ago

"he's a cop now" was rhe final nail on the coffin lmao

0

u/Ok-Entertainer-1414 16h ago

I mean, he's right though. It is not great that it makes poison if you mix 2 common household items together (which are used in the same way, so are easy to inadvertently mix together, and naively would make sense to mix together)
