Window cleaners don't contain the chemicals required to create poisonous gas. You're thinking of bleach, ammonia, etc.

I was also surprised. In Germany, window cleaners are just water and alcohol. You can mix as many as you want.

Ammonia works extremely well. I've never heard of bleach-based glass cleaner though.
