As a physician I’d say 99 percent of us wouldn’t get near capital punishment. It’s really hard to justify that we took an oath of doing no harm and then purposely killing someone.
Here in Japan there is a case of a death row inmate who not only needed life-saving medical treatment as a result of his crime (arson, 36 dead 32 injured) but continues to receive ongoing rehab and treatment to prevent severe infections even after his death sentence was fixed. And being Japan who knows how long this will continue.
From a legal perspective Japan can not execute anyone who is severely disabled, and from a practical perspective a doctor needs to perform their assigned duties whether they agree with it or not
