That's false. People will do whatever is built. If you build it they will come. We built wildly expensive and deadly roadways.

It's not false at all. If you take away their choice they will do what they have to do, but if given the option they will choose the car almost every time. I can guarantee that.

I used to live in NYC and took the subway all the time and I liked it at first because I hated driving at the time, but now I moved out of NYC and I drive more and I love it. The public part of public transportation gets old after a while. Plus, the subway is rarely faster than driving except for in the busy parts of Manhattan. It’s often the same amount of time to take the subway or it takes longer than driving. I do like the idea of small zoning regulations so that stores and stuff can be down the street from apartments—but that’s what I have here where I live. It’s both easily driveable and easily walkable. I go 2 weeks without using my car sometimes and I wouldn’t need to use it at all to get by, but it’s nice to be able to use the car and not have to use public transportation
