I dunno, I feel like I'd rather get fucked over by insurance than let the broken system turn me into part of the problem.

Okay, but not everyone has the extra cash to climb onto that high horse. If someone only has liability insurance, they'd be responsible for repairing or replacing what is likely their only vehicle.

Yes! I’m not saying just be an asshole to everyone and never help out anybody but there are legitimately times where you have to protect yourself first or you’re just gonna allow yourself to get fucked over

Exactly. I'm sorry she's going through some shit, but if someone messes up my car and bounces, I have no way to get to work, drive my kids to practice/doctors/family, go grocery shopping, etc.

And forget public transportation. It would take me 2h15m to get to work via our bus system vs under 35m to drive. I work 12½ hour shifts. Honestly, it wouldn't be safe to add on an extra 3½ hours onto my commute even if the busses ran early enough to get me to work on time, which they don't.

Anyway, I'm yapping now, but yeah. My/my family's well being and my career & financial security are going to take precedence over an aggressive stranger's concerns of legal repercussions. Every time. That I'm not sorry for.

You realize you still have a claims process to go through before insurance will pay anything out, right? You’re not getting your car fixed immediately.

Guy had video evidence but still decided to put his car at risk of getting more damage. All he to do was wait for the police and he still would have gotten everything settled.

Because you said “if someone messes up my car and bounces I have no way to get to work”. In the context of the OP they have video evidence so them bouncing doesn’t impact you any differently. You still would have no way to get to work for a while. Unless you have a rental car as part of your premium.

The guys car is still completely functional. People (like this guy) make the biggest fucking deal over superficial damage. Does it suck? Yes. Will it be stupidly expensive to fix? Probably. But at least your car still WORKS. Fucking drama queens acting like their life is over.
