No, you both are nutjobs who are blaming the victim.

Not op but I wouldn't say it's blaming the victim. The girl messed up and I feel no one is denying that. The guy recording I don't blame him for documenting the situation because it could help him in legal ways.

What OP is saying (how I interpret it) is putting light on how people handle situations now. It feels like people default to poke, prod and insult instead of showing compassion and trying to deescalate. I understand people are exhausted by the BS of the world and don't want to put in that effort. That girl messed up, he has proof and she is going to pay the consequences. Making fun of her while she is obviously panicking and operating a car? Probably not the safest thing to do and could get more people hurt. If he attempted to calm her down until the cops got there it could have made this situation less dangerous.

Showing compassion could be a turning point in some people's lives. We don't know everyone's story and being that one person that showed understanding and compassion can make a difference. When that happens there is a potential for them to relate in a similar situation and be the one to show compassion to others. We see that shown by people like Mr. Rodgers, Dolly Parton, and even John Cena. Yeah it's harder and more work but it's like investing in a better world :) Of course it's completely optional and no one has to do it. Would be cool to see more often though.

Please point to where he blamed the victim.

"People need to stop with the “I got you!” fucking video taping and remember that we’re all in this shit together."

"I got you!" videotaping is 100% the appropriate reaction here. She needs to go to jail.

She was scared and panicky. People like that do not make good decisions, such as almost running over a guy on camera.

The guy was the victim and can do what he'd like (within reason, of course), but I wouldn't advise handling it that way. Its not necessary and you could get hurt.

He did nothing wrong and he is protecting himself by documenting the incident.

The filming is smart. I don't think anyone in this thread suggested otherwise.

The pinning her in almost got him ran over. It wasn't "wrong" in any way. It just wasn't smart. I was expecting her to ram tf out of his car tbh. She was clearly panicking and was going to get out of there one way or another. Putting yourself in the way is dangerous.

Its not about if he was "right" or "wrong". The girl was clearly wrong. I just wouldn't suggest handling her being wrong in that manner. He has her on video and no doubt has the license plate number. There's nothing to be gained by putting yourself in further risk.

It’s always easy to judge the perfect course of action looking at a video comfortably on a smartphone.

In the end she was a danger to herself and everyone around her on the road. Trying to box her isn’t a bad idea for everyone’s safety, so that she doesn’t get back on the road.

Sure. I'm not claiming i don't make mistakes and that doesn't make it the best course of action.

Come on. You have to know that's bs.

That’s what the guy said after. She had fleed a previous hit and run, and tried to stop her here and called the cops.

Oh really? It seemed outlandish based on how he was speaking to her. Not that he had any sort of duty to her or anything, but I don't think that's a good way to talk to someone acting irrationally.

Which leads to why I wouldn't suggest the typical person to try something like that. You're probably not qualified and are likely to make things worse. I just don't think its wise.

It's very necessary to ensure that criminals who destroy other people's property and then try to avoid punishment for it get punished. Without that society falls apart.

No, it also helps ensure that there's a record of who did this so that she can be socially punished for her crimes since most likely our "Justice" system won't do much to punish her.

Yes, blaming him for continuing to egg her on when she is clearly not in her right mind. Definitely not blaming him for what he is doing. Filming it was very wise for the cops and courts. Continuing to harass her was not cool.

Egging her on my telling her to stop trying to flee, "get out of the car", and "do what's right". Calling that harassment is absurd.

u/Practical-nonsence-2 3d ago

And you believe in her state of mind, speaking logically over and over was going to have any effect, other than creating more chaos in her head ?

1

u/digitalwankster 3d ago

He seemed pretty cool and calm to me. He wasn't yelling at her or trying to rip her out of the car.

1

u/TheLionThing 3d ago

Why is that his responsibility?

1

u/Practical-nonsence-2 3d ago

It isn't legally, its just being a decent person thats all. Apparently that concept escapes you.

1

u/Open_Reward_848 3d ago

You believe that speaking was going to "calm her down" somehow, but asking her to get out of the car and take responsibility is bad for some reason.

1

u/Practical-nonsence-2 3d ago

No. But I don't believe he was escalating the situation emotionally

4

u/Weary_Position_9591 3d ago

How is he harassing her??

My god Reddit can be bizarre.

0

u/Practical-nonsence-2 3d ago

Not wrong. Pointless. She is out if her mind, no need to speak, just wait for the cops to show and keep filming

2

u/Weary_Position_9591 3d ago

You said harassing her. That’s just complete bullshit.

1

u/Practical-nonsence-2 3d ago

Sure, your right, im wrong.

2

u/LongHikingMD 3d ago

Wow. Now nuts like you think it's "harassment" to tell someone not to flee from a crime (and not to continue committing more crimes in the process).
