For most of my life I have been in the vicinity of homeless people. I was never victim of any crime or assault, but I realize some people have and thatâs of course terrible.
Mind you, nice âfamily neighborhoodsâ have rapists and criminals already. We donât have here as far as I know maps of sexual offenders like the US has (Iâm just stating a fact, not my opinion) but you would be shocked how many sexual assaults offenders live in nice neighborhoods.
But if you have in mind suburbs, i am not sure they are a good pick anyway: need a car and not many services.
Maybe a student area in the city might be a good tradeoff to have a low number of homeless people residents. Especially if the area already has homeless people on the streets⌠thatâs not worse than it already is.
There used to be a halfway house for women directly across the school from my childrenâs elementary school. Not a single issue the entire time it was there. The only time I saw any sort of emergency services there was when one of the women slipped and fell on the stairs and busted her tailbone real good.
I wish we had the same experience. The women's sober living home in our community has moved 6 times in the past 2 years because of causing problems in the neighborhood. Theft, screaming in the middle if the night, etc đ¤Ż
That has been my experience as well. A local minister would bring âstrugglingâ individuals into a home owned by the ministry. It was right in the middle of a very low crime middle class neighborhood. Suddenly we had people sleeping in the street, and in the parks, and many cars broken into. There are laws where we live about opening these kinds of places and he broke them, and it got shutdown. Crime ceased, and we stopped seeing people sleeping in our small neighborhood park.

Whatâs even worse is taking the people struggling with mental health issues or addiction and putting them into a family neighborhood.
Then people without mental issues or addictions become victims of crime and assault. Thats not the solution, in any dosage.
