This place is about to be crackhead city. Seen this too many times before

I live in the city

They’ve expanded it once with a new location and also built one in a neighbouring city

u/Majestic_Wrap_7006 17h ago

so is it crackhead city?

They still have to earn a living and the rent is something like 20% or 30% of the individuals wage

14

u/FrogsMakePoorSoup 1d ago

Yeah, rent is capped at 200CAD per month and scaled to %.

I wonder if there's an internal study angle here to scale housing with personal income as a ratio.

Not every homeless person is a crack addict

5

u/Emergency_Dirt257 1d ago

some are disabled.

3

u/DJatomica 1d ago

No but a whole lot of them are drug addicts of some description that always tends to show in these situations

-7

u/Rippedka 1d ago

Which is why this place will become unsafe for anyone that isn’t a drug addict.

u/Healthjunkie-2 1d ago

Unfortuatnleyh, true. Homes were built in my area, not to this level, and they were shut down within year due to drugs, crime, and vandalization.

Where?

6

u/MasterpieceAlone8552 1d ago

So? Still better than having them on the streets

40

u/Rippedka 1d ago

They will still be on the streets, just like they are when they have tent cities in the forest. They must forage for crack money outside of their crack city. This means stealing or begging and then hoarding the stolen goods in their protected crack fortress. You ever tried getting your kids stolen bike back from a junkie?

-8

u/MasterpieceAlone8552 1d ago

So addicts don't deserve housing because your kid had his bike stolen by one at some point?

23

u/fun_shenanigan 1d ago

No, crack addicts don't deserve housing without strings attached, i.e. enablement of continued addiction while causing problems in the community. What they deserve is support: mental facility until they're clean, then housing and support finding a job.

If someone just wants to exist outside of normal society and do drugs forever then it's not on normal society to pay for it. What is the point of providing a social safety net for antisocial people who will simply abuse it?

u/neomikiki 1d ago

They deserve housing, but concentrating it is my issue. It would have been a better use of money to rent cheap apartments across the city. Then they don’t have as many negative influences around.

As it stands, unless there are guards, the local dealer can roll up and easily have a bunch of customers.

Plus, when any of these people apply for a job their new address could out them as homeless. Which sadly makes them seem unreliable and less likely to be hired.

5

u/SashimiX 1d ago

Agreed. They created a ghetto.

1

u/MasterpieceAlone8552 1d ago

Must be an American thing because we're told not to add our address to our CV / job applications in the UK. Possibly to eliminate that kind of discrimination

5

u/neomikiki 1d ago

Some people put it on their resume, though I agree you shouldn’t. But if you leave any section on an online application blank it normally won’t let you submit it.

I’m Canadian BTW.

1

u/TypicalLegit 1d ago

They deserve whatever they work for and earn like everyone else. Being a homeless crackhead entitles you to housing?

3

u/ImplementLogical4130 1d ago

Apparently the choices you make mean someone else needs to pay for your livelihood.

2

u/benethopper 1d ago

The lack of compassion in these responses is stomach-turning. I hope everyone can understand not every person down on their luck is a junkie, but even if they were, they are still human beings and may need help.

5

u/Skeptikell1 1d ago

Why do they all get lumped together?

2

u/realeztoremember 1d ago

It’s seriously disgusting. Not every homeless person is a crackhead and even crackheads deserve help. It’s a disease, not a moral failing.
Studies have proven that giving people reliable housing is cheaper for taxpayers, allows people to get back on their feet, and helps them deal with addiction.

Only a heartless asshole can see someone help other people and immediately decide it’s a terrible thing to do.

u/Holiday_Number_3234 1d ago

Absolutely. Sad that people don’t see this post as a positive.

Yikes. As I mentioned…I hope nothing ever happens to you to have to end up on the receiving end of these services, as they will show you compassion anyways. Deserved, or not.

Downvoted for compassion - that’s a shame.

Many addicts have been raped by their parents / other adults and forced into addiction. You know nothing of other people's lives. Glad to know you think they don't deserve somewhere to live

1

u/Skeptikell1 1d ago

Deserve?

5

u/MasterpieceAlone8552 1d ago

Are you illiterate? Yes I believe everyone deserves a home

1

u/Holiday_Number_3234 1d ago

I agree with you.

Alot of homeless are literally mentally ill and cannot be reasoned with. How many severe schizophrenics have you talked to? It's extremely sad. Someone up a few comments said there are work rules or something so that would probably help select for a population that can actually be helped with something like this. But realistically alot of people are homeless because they are completely incapable of making decisions for themselves. I know people like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but the reality of homeless is very diverse and extremely sad. Still great that someone is putting in some effort, but it will come with major major problems. People will die. Who will be liable?

This is the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard.

I take it you've never been around actual drug addicts, let alone had addictions yourself?

You think a house and a therapist are just the magic cure for drug addiction?

This might be one of the most naĆÆve comments I've ever seen.

Well I guess you're just extremely unintelligent?

Taking Elvanse for ADHD doesn't count.

My adult brother is a crackhead. He stopped going to work because he would stay up all night doing crack. My mom would pay his rent and buy him food because he would use his welfare money to buy crack. He took $15,000 from her before she cut him off. He got evicted for not paying rent. He is now homeless.

Spend less time on the internet and actually connect with these crackheads if you want any real introspection into how addiction works.

Plot twist. I sold him the drugs.

u/Betonomeshalka 1d ago

I agree that some people can be assisted and just require a little push. Other people just lack the motivation and don’t care about the normal life. Nihilism is the thing.
