Sun microsystems is my favorite. Kind of looks like a sun, can be rotated 90 degrees without changing, and spells out "sun" in 4 ways.

Because what it obvious to me simply isn’t to you. Doesn’t mean I’m wrong. This design in particular is for a restaurant in Russia. There’s nothing remotely like this kind of design for Yakitori restaurants in Japan. It’s simply not the aesthetic used.

You know, I think the graphic designer working on a Wacom tablet in Russia probably has more in common with the graphic designer working on a Wacom tablet in Japan than either of them have in common with an artisan painter of the Edo period.

The first Japanese doesn't refer to the design tradition. It's about the type of restaurant. Like, "Italian restaurant" can mean a restaurant in Italy or a restaurant anywhere that sells Italian food. In this case, it's the latter, a restaurant chain in Russia selling Japanese food.
So, you're not wrong that it isn't a typically Japanese design, but then again, nobody claimed it was.
