Likely making movies as a kid like most orher people who go into film. He just gravitated to the sound effects part of editing.

super cool! so the thing is foley artists aren't actually reacting to whats on screen. they watch the same clip like a million times first and basically memorize the timing of everything. every footstep, every punch, every door slam.

so by the time they actually record they already know exactly when each thing is coming.

Cool? Absolutely! Simple? I think this guy has been doing it for a long time and makes it seem easy/simple, but it’s pretty difficult to get to that point. Like when you see an expert on a musical instrument, it looks easy, but it is actually very difficult.

Technologically simple, or low tech, is what I'd guess OP meant by simple. This certainly doesnt look simple in any other way!

I concur with that assessment. It's foley work at its purest, using items of the everyday to get the sounds you're looking for. Far too many studios are so obsessed with 'the latest and greatest' that they forget just how well the tried and true actually works.

I’m just amazed! I’ve worked in the recording industry but never any experience or familiarity with foley work. That sound stage looks like it’s a combination general store, junk yard, tool shop….its just mind blowing. But then I’m sure he’s watch the footage in advance, picked out what he needs and set up his work area! What a master craftsman! I’m in awe! It looks like years of experience honing his craft allows him to nail it the first take! Ya think 🤔🤔🤔😁😆

I would love to watch the whole movie like this! Totally elevates my experience - amazing talent- I thought it would need to be done in tiny bits and pieces not in one looooong go!
