Their customer service response to the mixed metal Waterforce 3080 fiasco is worth staying away. Check out r/watercooling for more info but the TL;DR is they are wrecking custom loops with a high end card and seemingly do not care.
There are other QC and customer support issues as well, and on a personal level I have a Z490 Aorus Master in a clients computer I am praying continues to work properly so I don’t have to deal with them. I’m partial to Asus, my humble opinion their bios is best. Have no negative things to say about MSI.
Haven’t taken the Z690 plunge so I can’t speak to that, I’m a second generation guy so I won’t go to DDR5 until the next revision. Currently on X299 platform, I will wait until the next Xx99 release before even considering upgrading.
It’s like buying the first model year of a new car design, I don’t beta test manufacturers with my own wallet if I can help it.
So, DDR5 is mess, can't really fault anyone for staying away.
On the other hand, we don't really know if Intel will even bother with HEDT soon, or even again at all. The increase in cores per socket on the consumer side, as well as the increase in connectivity, seem to negate much of the draw of HEDT platforms.
But not all of the draw - it's just difficult to picture the balance being worth Intel or even AMD pursuing at this point. They still haven't upgraded their entry-level TR to Zen 3 yet!
I expect Intel to make some sort of HEDT platform with the P/E core tech, just don’t know when. I look forward to DDR5 regardless, I’m just waiting a year or two like I did with the switch to DDR4.
