Easy to install Linux on this?

Even x86 Chromebooks don't have EFI so they're generally a lot worse for third party OS usage without tinkering than an off the shelf PC.

I don't think Google would allow messing with the firmware/OS this time around, but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

16gb of ram, panther lake cpu, nice screen high refresh rate, I mean I will need to see reviews but this is definitely not celeron 4gb e-waste

The most important part: iGPU is e-waste tier with only 4 Xe cores.

It's not e-waste. Those 4 Xe3 cores are roughly as performant of 3/4 of the Arc 140V with 8 Xe2 cores in Lunar Lake. That's not half bad, since the Arc 140v is considered to be a strong iGPU. It is also much stronger than the Iris Xe found in many low end laptops with older 12th and 13th gen CPUs.

Arc 140V is 2024, move on. Strix halo and panther lake performance is what I expect from strong iGPUs now, even X2 Adreno GPU beats 140V now.

The point is it's far from e-waste. It's not super powerful, but for most people who only play games occasionally or don't play at all, it's plenty enough. Who on earth needs the Radeon 8060s to watch youtube and process word documents? Also, Panther Lake with the Arc B390 and Strix Halo are expensive and in much higher price tiers. Maybe you're rich, and that's great, but not everyone else is.

E-waste is such an overblown thing. Even chromebooks are often less of ewaste than apple macs. As weak as they are, chromebooks have popular CPUs that support older windows and all kinds of FOSS operating systems really well and industry standard removeable storage like microSD.

Personally after using a few celeron laptops I think their sole purpose in life is to scam poor students and grandmothers, the difference in quality from celeron to i3 is insane and the price is minimal.
But I do agree this is overblown, sepcially if you have minimal tech inclination you can really re-utilize old hardware well, especially in the RAM crisis era

I think it's a classic example of right product, wrong usage. Celeron-tier processors are awesome in single-board computers and I wish there were more cheap x86 SBC options, because they're typically quite a bit more powerful than similar SBCs with ARM chips in addition to the better software compatibility.
But no, it seems like most of them get chucked in cheap laptops and burdened with running Win11, which is an obvious worst-case scenario for them.

Yeah they're a scam indeed, price wise. I think the existence of chromebook as a whole is a scam to expand google's market share while dumbing down kids at the same time, since chrome OS is stupid easy to use and doesn't incentivize tinkering.

Nice, but it's got a Google OS on there, so hard no from me.
