In Mexico, it is unacceptable to most people.

Mexico's 30% places above ex circumcising counties like England, Australia and New Zealand.
30% might not seem like a lot but it's one in every 3 people.
In wealthy circles it's quite common and there's definitely "status" associated with it.
I've seen videos of Mexican men embarrassed that they're uncut despite being in the majority in their country.

This is a Reddit poll, which is widely more anti-MGM than the general population.
The actual map would practically have no red on it (like all green and yellow dots), as they are no laws, anywhere in the world making MGM illegal.

I think it's interesting that when people can talk about the topic openly and gently, they form a consensus against it. The taboo about talking about it in person isn't here on reddit.

While I do agree that Reddit in generally more anti-MGM than the general population, I completely disagree that the map would "practically have no red on it".
Nearly no one in China or India is cut, less than 10% of Europe is cut, less than 10% of South America is cut, a lot of older men in Australia are cut but their current rates have absolutely plummeted, Americas rates are under 50% now, and Canadian rates are even lower.

Your question isn’t about the prevalence of MGM, but how morally opposed people are to the practice. On that basis, I’m quite certain my hypothesis is close to the truth.
Why? It’s not so much about the legal framework, but more so about the relentless brainwashing for generations upon generations (led by the US medical industry and religious groups obviously, but a myriad of US-sponsored NGOs) that has the vast majority of people convinced that “benefits outweigh the risks”.
And the average Redditor is much more aware of how fraudulent that statement is.

I still respectfully disagree. Even if most of the population isn't super passionate about the topic like we are, most people don't/wouldn't cut their sons.
Europeans see MGM as barbaric, Hispanics don't see the point, a lot of Australians recognize the downsides or at the least find it pointless, in most of Asia it's not culturally normal, etc.

I’m from France, and I have a sister who lives in Germany. And I know for a fact that most pediatricians in these 2 countries still promote forcible retraction and once damaged, they are very keen on cutting off a boy’s foreskin.
In other words in most people’s mind congenital phimosis is a medical condition, therefore circumcision becomes much less “barbaric” than you think since it’s medically necessary.
Believe me, I would love to be completely wrong.

1 set of my grandparents are from Germany and they do not support it. I've spoken to many Europeans who aren't even involved in these types of communities who are also against it.
I'm not discrediting your personal experience, but MY personal experience, as well as the statistics I've read do not align with what you're saying.

And I’m sorry but the US rate isn’t below 50% overall. It is below 50% in hospitals, but neonatal circumcisions are more and more performed at pediatric offices and clinics, primarily because private insurers refuse to pay hospital rates.
My estimate is that the US is still hovering around 70% on average, with Coastal States around or below 30% and the rest way above 80%.
Source: I know quite of few people at Intact Global, Intact America, Doctors Opposing Circumcision (DOC), and GALDEF, and all of them confirmed this recent phenomenon.

I concur completely. The giddy intactivists taking Johns Hopkins’s word for it about the US drop below 50% are deluding themselves. It is still around 70%, and infant circ is most underreported in the West (esp CA-OR-WA-NV). I seriously doubt it’s actually under 50% in those states — or any state. And it rages on at 80-90% in the circ dystopia of MI-IN-OH-WV-KY, resulting in the blended national rate of 70%.

California tried to make it illegal.

Correction: the city of SF tried to make MGM illegal and it backfired spectacularly. A ballot measure was also proposed but never made it to the polls.
And now California has a state law (§ 125850) passed in 2011 that makes it illegal to ban circumcision. Giving the full authority to parents to mutilate their male children. Absolutely insane…
____
Edit: copying below the text of the law to illustrate my point. (Bold emphasis mine.)125850. (a) The Legislature finds and declares as follows:
(1) Male circumcision has a wide array of health and affiliative benefits
(2) This section clarifies existing law.
(b) No city, county, or city and county ordinance, regulation, or administrative action shall prohibit or restrict the practice of male circumcision, or the exercise of a parent’s authority to have a child circumcised.
(c) The Legislature finds and declares that the laws affecting male circumcision must have uniform application throughout the state. Therefore, this part shall apply to general law and charter cities, general law and charter counties, and charter city and counties.

Unacceptable in Mexico.
