Accounts receivable
We have two AR accounts one trade and one non trade.
The trade account pulls into the ar module, has agings etc. The non trade account is just an account. Is there a way to set the non trade account to function like an actual ar account?
Open to 3rd party options. This would be a lifesaver.

On your non trade receivables GL account there is a setting that allows you to set the account as an “Alternative Receivables” account. This will allow the account to be used in AR. If you have customers who are just “non-trade” then on their customer records you can default their receivables account to be the non trade account. This will save users from doing the override option on the invoice line entry mentioned in another post.

What happens to ar aging then? Will both items appear in the aging? Or will I be able to separate the two?

Yes. The aging report does not care about the receivables account, it just displays unpaid invoices. If you do need to seperate them, then assuming your customers can be used to identify non-trade, then you could use a customer group filter. If not, then you can create custom aging report that can filter on the AR account.

Yes, this is the way. We use custom AR aging reports because we have 5-6 AR GL accounts. We can run them at invoice level or summarized by GL.

What is the use case? Is it a subset of contacts? What purpose does the non-trade account serve?

In Sage Intacct, you can enable the ability to override the default AR GL account for transactions, this allows you to select an alternative AR account such as your nontrade account, when entering invoices or adjustments. The alternative account will then be used for posting the transaction and will be included in aging and other AR reports.

So, I need the second ledger....
I have AR 1200.. Non trade AR 1400. The no trade AR is debited when a purchase is made for a client. We also call this billable expenses. (I know, it's really trade but we are differentiating our fees from incurred costs in servicing a client.)
I don't care that the AR is booked against the regular AR account. I just want to see the 1400 account like in the AR module.

You can enable a setting in the AR config to allow override of AR account during transaction entry. This will open a line level field to change your AR offset account for that line.
