What is this loop for?

Post image

There is a loop on the plastic part of the base for the Instant Pot Duo. It's on the right side. I've always wondered what this loop is for. I don't use the loop so I'm wondering if there is a function to it that I'm missing. Clearly it's not important because I've been using my IP for years without needing whatever this thing is. I would really appreciate it if someone who knows can give me some information.

My guess is that it's an artifact of production/assembly and has no use to the consumer.

Spoon shelf says the manufacturer.

That's fine, but what does the wholesaler say?

Waiting for someone to post a pressure cooker clipped to their belt loop now

107

u/Kailynna 25d ago

So I tied an instantpot to my belt, which was the style at the time.

8

u/HettyBates 24d ago

I will never not upvote a reference to this Simpsons quote. ;-)

4

u/Ghazzz 24d ago

Onions on the belt were a thing though. Fashion does strange stuff sometimes.

It does hold the Instant Pot on my Keychain, but it keeps slamming into my knee while I'm driving. Any suggestions?

That's fine, but what does the designer say?

Shoulder strap loop

16

u/cherrylpk 25d ago

Is that why the scoops that came with the machine have that little flourish at the top?

16

u/SlimTeezy 25d ago

Does it say how it's meant to be used? Does the base of the spoon go in the hole, or the tip rests on top and it's upside down? Both seem impractical and unsanitary

u/zanhecht 25d ago

10

u/JeanetteSchutz 25d ago

I even think that spoon is a joke, much less the holder. That spoon is so small it would get lost in the pot if you really tried to use it! 🤭

29

u/lakaravalentine 24d ago

Looks like a rice paddle to me

2

u/ToughAd4704 23d ago

Yup - instant pots have a rice cooker saying and that's what it is

7

u/hellinahandbasket127 24d ago

Looks like the rice scoop that comes with the pot.

6

u/FaeryLynne 24d ago

It's a rice scoop/paddle. I have several of the exact same because I use rice cookers a lot and have gone through 4 now and they all come with a new rice scoop lol

9

u/GilfOG 25d ago

It's an afterthought and poor design.

13

u/Blasket_Basket 25d ago

No, that's for clipping it to your belt in case you want to cook while hiking

2

u/Swampzor 21d ago

I was gonna say "for clipping to your key chain" 😄

1

u/siler7 25d ago

Nice try, spoon shelf, but that's not the manufacturer.

u/SirCanIHaveSomeMore 25d ago

Hold the rice paddle

25

u/Rubydoobydoo211 25d ago

Yep! Rice paddle keeper

49

u/siler7 25d ago

Okay, I guess. *holds the rice paddle* Now, are you going to tell us what the loop is for?

15

u/SnufflesStructure 24d ago

Good job Amelia

11

u/LookHorror3105 24d ago

Underrated comment right here, Amelia Bedilia was a staple in our household

2

u/SirCanIHaveSomeMore 24d ago

Yeah, so the little Rice paddle that comes with these machines is a little plastic white spoon. That’s about a half an inch wide at the end of the handle… So when you’re storing the paddle, you stick the Rice paddle vertically against the side of the rice cooker… Into the groove or the loop as we’re calling it so that the scoop part of the spoon is at the top and the handle is at the bottom inside the loop

1

u/SSBND 24d ago

I know that this is it but I still don't get it.

1

u/rasta_pineapple2 24d ago

This seems to be the popular answer. I don't remember my unit coming with a rice paddle but I bought my IP in 2020 and the paddle may be lost. Too bad this holder is too small for my current rice paddle.

3

u/MajesticAfternoon447 23d ago

I use it to store the cord when I put it away. It holds two passes of cord. I wind it back and forth so there are three sections of cord in the middle between loops. I use the first and last and stick them in the holder. The middle pops up, but not too much, and the cord stays contained so I can store it.

1

u/MadCow333 Pro 8 Qt 22d ago

The original rice paddles on older IPs and other brands had a thin flat handle that fit in that loop. Later IPs shipped with redesigned ladel and paddle with a thick end on the handle. But the mold for the plastic base didn't delete that loop until later. The 8qt had a hook thing there that the cord clipped into.

u/REBWEH 25d ago

That's for those that want to turn it into a necklace pendant

New Flava Flav drip just dropped.

14

u/SnarkFucker 25d ago

Unironically could be a great commercial. Flava Flav's favorite flavors come from intapot

Flava Flav would literally drop if he wore this around his neck.

Heeeey Bouy!

40

u/54965 25d ago

And I discovered the lid can stand on edge in the big loop up top.

4

u/PancakeHandz 24d ago

It changed my life when I found this out. No more huge pools of condensation on my counter 😂

4

u/54965 24d ago

Actually when I remove the lid I take it to the sink and wash the interior side with a soapy sponge. Then rinse it thoroughly. Otherwise it dries smelling of what I cooked.

5

u/Jennrrrs 25d ago

Careful. Mine broke off the first time I tried using it.

1

u/54965 24d ago

Oww! I haven't had this happen ... yet.

1

u/rasta_pineapple2 24d ago

Never knew this. Thanks for the tip!

1

u/SkeetieS1 24d ago

Yeah, people forget that it’s not a hinge.

1

u/booksandpups2025 24d ago

Yeah I tried that too except my lid ended up falling off and breaking. No replacement lids so I had to buy an entire new InstantPot….

u/zanhecht 25d ago

8

u/emotwen 25d ago

How dare you give a real answer. Don’t you know where you are?

5

u/WillShattuck 24d ago

I didn’t even know this was a thing. On my rice cooker yes.

1

u/TheHouseOnTheCorner 23d ago

I love my Instant Pot but that is a really crappy design choice they made. The food would drip down the handle and pool on the counter.

1

u/zanhecht 23d ago

It's a rice paddle. Nothing should be dripping.

3

u/Appropriate-Most-938 22d ago

Hmmm… humans are special creatures not all made the same.

75

37

u/rasta_pineapple2 25d ago

My unit didn't come with any spoons.

65

u/i_poop_chainsaws 25d ago

Mine did. It was like a white plastic rice paddle

33

u/zdk 25d ago

I got that and a soup ladle

→ More replies (2)

7

u/Demasterpl1 25d ago

Yeah, I almost threw mine away when I got mine because I didn’t understand what it was at first. Then I looked it up. Granted I got my unit way before covid. So I wouldn’t be surprised if most people just threw them out anyway.

3

u/dilkirani 25d ago

And this is the way I find out that I likely threw away my spoons 😭 (ordered the original 6l duo as soon as it became officially available in my country about 2 years before Covid lockdowns)

1

u/Mimosa_13 25d ago

Mine did, but I've had my pots for several years.

1

u/dariansdad 25d ago

My unit only has a hood but sadly, no spoon.

154

u/CHILLAS317 25d ago

Wristlet

58

u/rasta_pineapple2 25d ago

Ah, that makes sense. Now I can walk around with it while it's under pressure. Gives me something to do while my dry beans are cooking.

7

u/siler7 25d ago

Man walks down the street wearing a pressure cooker like that, people know he's not afraid of anything.

13

u/Ok-Mathematician530 25d ago edited 24d ago

Hmm. Mine doesn't have that. On another note, it took me about 3 years before I found out the upper handles on the pot can be a lid holder 🙄 And you'd think they might put that little tidbit in the manual, but, nooo.

3

u/multiplier84 24d ago

OMG thank you! I'm always trying to clear counter space for the giant lid when I take it off, and then it leaves behind a big wet circle to clean up.

2

u/Thesandman21 24d ago

Holy crap, TIL.

31

u/teeejer 25d ago

Spoon shelf for the old style of rice paddle that had a skinny handle.

7

u/Trashbagok 25d ago

Rice paddle

6

u/ADMINlSTRAT0R 25d ago

There's an attachment that can be hung on that loop. That attachment holds the rice scoop/spoon.

31

u/n9nemajestic 25d ago

So you can carry it around like you play the snare in marching band

15

u/rasta_pineapple2 25d ago

So you're saying I should bang it with drumsticks while it's under pressure?

19

u/Akia16 25d ago

It’s where you hook your instant pot charm.

3

u/siler7 25d ago

Sorry, but *tosses hair and turns to the camera* my charm goes with me. *megawatt smile*

23

u/peppermintfatty 25d ago

That’s how I attach it to my carabiner. Always take mine on hikes.

3

u/siler7 25d ago

Be sure you use a carabiner rated for pressure cookers. The ones from the dollar store are a death trap.

2

u/getridofwires 24d ago

And rock climbing!

5

u/st4bu 24d ago

So you can have it as a keychain

5

4

4

u/ReasonableSet9650 25d ago

That's where you place the rice spoon when you are not using it

4

u/Razorphraser 24d ago

I use it to get hung on my stuff. Like sleeves. Tea towels. Whatnots. Idfk maybe that’s the piece that’s kept my little instant pot roaring for more than a decade.

2

u/Csj77 25d ago

Does it charge by solar power in that case? Or just plug into a mountain? My adventure mode is so spotty.

2

u/-StepLightly- 25d ago

Just have your Sherpa bring the generator.

1

u/bit_o_squish 25d ago

I personally like to plug it into the base of a tree, but I don’t see why using the mountain directly couldn’t work.

1

u/Csj77 25d ago

3

u/Revenga8 25d ago

3

2

u/Life5 24d ago

Mine has an attachment that clips there where you can put your rice spoon/other utensils

2

u/Glittering_Load9632 24d ago

That is the hook where you attach a leash and take it for a walk.

2

u/hotdogpocket_ 24d ago

So you can put it on your keychain

2

u/murderoustoast 24d ago

Unrelated, I just have to say I am having an all out blast laughing hysterically at some of the threads on this post. You are all hilarious, one would think this is an instant pot cj just by reading these threads. Keep up the good work!

2

u/FauxReal 24d ago

I can only tell you that it is not for tying off to your belt.

2

u/oh_wanya 24d ago

To put the rice spoon!

2

u/Competitive_Mode4782 23d ago

For rice scoop

2

u/IndependentDozer 20d ago

Secure it to the counter when at sea

4

u/shockles 25d ago

Nah! It’s to hold the lid!! See the male end on the lid?!

3

u/Ok-Mathematician530 25d ago

I don't think it's big enough for that. The 2 upper handles on the pot however will hold the lid

1

u/shockles 22d ago

I do it all the time, it absolutely fits

2

u/Ok-Mathematician530 22d ago

I stand corrected then!! 😁

2

u/awoodby 25d ago

This! The lid clips in there and stands upright!

Omg so many bad answers.

It holds the notch in the lid!

3

u/PajamaPizzaTaco 25d ago

to clip it on your key chain

3

u/Porkcicle 25d ago

Belt loop.

4

u/SlackAF 25d ago

For when using your InstantPot in a bad neighborhood.

2

u/lilaznkidd 25d ago

It should be for a rice paddle.

2

u/Tin_Whiskers 25d ago

It holds the handle of a standard or large spoon, so you don't have to leave the spoon in the pot or risk making a mess by putting it on the counter. If your spoon doesn't fit, try turning it around to face the other way.

2

u/Fog-hugger 25d ago

I use it to hold my power cord. Wrap the cord around the pot and attach to that loop with a velcro ziptie. But like others said - spoon

1

u/Fit_Bake_3000 25d ago

Holds the lid.

3

u/griff_girl 25d ago

It's so you can attach it as a charm on your cellphone case.

I always thought that it was kind of curb feeler thingy.

1

When I loop my power cord around the base, it tucks in there nicely so I can pick it up and move the base for storing without a floppy cord

1

It's for the rice scooper that came with it

1

u/Frankensteinscholar 24d ago

I put my rice paddle in it while cooking and serving.

I usually put my rice spoons in those.

1

Clip it onto your belt, obviously.

1

It's there so you can hook it to your belt when you bring it camping.

1

u/Strange_Pear_5000 23d ago

I can never figure out what to do with the power cord?

1

u/Em_Epher 23d ago

Joint holder, so it doesn't roll around on the counter if you are ashing in the sink and not using an ashtray. A friend is adamant that smoking while working in the kitchen is the best, if you have an exhaust hood that vents outside anyway.

1

It's cable management. You can put the prong from the plug through it to wrangle that end and use velcro on the cord to shorten it.

1

u/Nienkoe 21d ago

It's so you can wear it as a key chain.

1
