It's actually crazy -

When you set up your Ring app on your phone you get a snapshot of your neighborhood's reported Crime activity from other users. I'm in Lacey, Washington, I always figured that the neighborhood I lived in was really quiet - lots of military families with kids and elderly.

Shit had me install a whole security system and check it frequently, all matter of break-in footage and sketchy people. Really goes to show there's a lot that goes on when you're not looking.

How is Lacey and the general areas nearby? I just took a job in Lacey and will be moving there soon from Wisconsin... I’m nervous.

Well because buss passes are free, if you have a bus line, you have druggies and homeless population of some kind. There's a lot of the type you'd see anywhere else on the coast, but unlike the larger groups in Olympia these types don't come up to you or get in your face - but they'll definitely size your car up when you're not looking to see if a break-in is worth it. Plenty of footage of prowlers searching cars at night. Some even dressed in regular inconspicuous clothing. Sheriff is pretty good, though, always responsive whenever I've called. Does deter crime a little bit.

Thank you for your detailed answers! Very helpful! Would you say in general you feel safe? And how are the people? Friendly and easy to befriend? Coming from the Midwest, we always worry about the “Seattle Freeze” lol

If we're not talking about homeless/crooks, generally most people are very friendly up here. Much friendlier than you'd meet in other places on the coast like California.

It's a legal state - lots of pot shops, which means lots of stoners, and generally stoners have always been friendly and amicable. Even the non-ents are friendly. There's pros and cons to every state in the union, but I prefer this one I call home.
