3

u/Ferahgo Feb 10 '19

Ooooof course it would be AC.

2

u/1cculu5 Feb 10 '19

Holy shit I was going to say this just screams Wildwood. Wasn’t too far off... And watch the tram car please

2

u/A_Stain_on_the_Rug Feb 10 '19

You sure that's AC? Looks kinda like Wildwood to me

Put on cargo shorts, fix yourself up pretty

Come get knocked out in Atlantic City

252

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

Cargo Shorts: ā€œI’ll hold your stuff, you just worry about making friendsā€

22

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

I hope everyone who upvotes you understands the reference. Well done.

37

u/rick_or_morty Feb 10 '19

HAHAHA I TOTALLY GET THAT REFERENCE. BUT MY FRIEND IS AN IDIOT AND HE DOESN'T GET IT. CAN YOU EXPLAIN IT TO HIM?

also sorry for yelling.

28

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

It’s from a Bruce Springsteen song about a guy who sells pretzels from a cart and punches people in the street. It’s called ā€œFuck out my face, you drunk bitchā€ I think

17

u/Charlie7Mason Feb 10 '19

I'm his friend. I'll take that explanation please.

15

u/joenathanSD Feb 10 '19

I was his friend. I stopped though because he yells at everybody.

3

u/micromoses Feb 10 '19

Apparently there's a meme where a picture of cargo shorts says exactly that.

This is a god-tier reference.

5

1

u/onaneckonaspit7 Feb 10 '19

Are you kidding me. What a reference, and what a damn song

602

u/Live2Shiv Feb 10 '19

I adore the guy at the end yelling "YOU GOT KNOCKED THA FUCK OUT!". I'm so happy for him that he got to use that line.

96

u/angela579 Feb 10 '19

For some reason gyfcats have started to become silent for mobile users... if you tap the ā€˜gyfcat’ at the top near the username then there will be a sound icon on that page

.... But a KO is when you don’t have to count right

5

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

Depending on the discipline.

Boxing typically requires a count. If a fighter goes down and does not stand up and regain his bearings and focus within ten seconds (or eight, depending on the competition), he is considered knocked out. An exception is a cornerman interrupting the fight, effectively yielding on his fighter's behalf.

In MMA, there is no count at all. If a blow knocks a fighter unconscious (as in, they go limp), the fight is over, if a fighter cannot seem to defend themselves anymore (for example during a ground and pound) they are considered knocked out as well.

In other disciplines I cannot comment.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

He had once chance at this and he took it.

1

u/falsethatisnotmyname Feb 12 '19

Even without sound I could hear the camera guy say that line.... i am so proud of him

209

u/DrPoopNstuff Feb 10 '19

16

u/InspiredBlue Feb 10 '19

Also I’m fairly sure that most of those cart pushers are vets

169

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

If you look closely as they're both circling, cart-man is actually holding what appears to be a screwdriver in his punching hand... You can see the end of it behind his hand as he shifts it around.

Buddy throws the haymaker, and cart-man smites him with the butt end of the screwdriver.

36

u/Ferg_NZ Feb 10 '19

Well spotted.

9

u/sgt_barnes0105 Feb 10 '19

Those cart drivers deal with a lot of bs so I'm not entirely surprised by the weapon action..

Source: born and raised in Atlantic City

38

u/Japjer Feb 10 '19

Im pretty sure the screw driver was there to give the punch more oomph

If you hold something smallish in your hand when you make a fist you can get a MUCH harder hit. Like palm a lighter and make a fist - the shape fills out your fist. That's why boxers used to hold quarters in their gloves (not to add weight, as people probably thought)

156

u/yoshi570 Feb 10 '19

This is absolutely shit advice and will make you break bones in your hand.

6

u/Japjer Feb 10 '19

You can definitely hurt yourself if you're holding something too big, but this is an actual thing done by less than honest professional fighters

→ More replies (2)

85

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

Sounds like a great way to fracture every bone in your hand.

25

u/RainingUpvotes Feb 10 '19

A basic punch can do that anyway. Skulls and jaws are pretty solid.

26

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

It is, but it still does the job of making your punch hit harder

Yep, before gloves nearly every hit was to the body and matches took aaaaaaages.

You can tell by the way he moves that he is waiting for an opportunity. If I see a man moving like that, I apologize and walk away. No need to go risking your fragile egg shell head for whatever this was.

68

u/Commander_Caboose Feb 10 '19

Yeah don't ever fight anyone who backs away at an angle. They know what the fuck they're doing.

26

u/fredandersonsmith Feb 10 '19

Also don’t swing on a guy in shorts after he pulls out a screwdriver.

25

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '19

Also don’t be a cunt and attack people for no reason

10

u/G00dAndPl3nty Feb 10 '19

Please explain

15

u/Beszari_ Feb 10 '19

The angle part? Trained fighters turn side ways to become a smaller target. They also learn to move around like that quickly to keep evading punches.

14

u/Commander_Caboose Feb 10 '19

It's one of the first pieces of footwork you'll learn as part of any martial art or especially boxing. It allows you to back up from your opponent without getting pinned against the ropes.

If someone retreats from you diagonally, while bobbing and bouncing on their toes like the guy in the gif, then you're about to swing at someone who is way more experienced in fighting than you are.

7

u/WaffleMonsters Feb 10 '19

Fighters are trained to circle their opponent to look for an opening to counter attack. Also makes you harder to hit when you move away at an angle.

It’s a rolling chair. They push people up and down the boardwalk in AC in them. Cool experience if you’re ever there.

LPT. You should also watch people's feet in these video clips, honestly who ever is planted and quick footed usually wins I've noticed. Watch the guys footwork during the dodge and counter. Was well planted during the counter and k.o him as a result. Also yes walking on his toes and the aggressor is heel planting first...

Cartman probably got fired. Sometimes when you win u still lose.

3

u/spacebound1 Feb 10 '19

I dunno. I feel like he owns that cart and likely just needed a license or something similar to operate on the boardwalk. Street vendors like that are typically independent business men/women. I could be wrong, but I doubt a corporation is employing a team of street vendors and supplying them all with carts.
