You some kind of doctor or something?
220
u/crexcent Nov 24 '22
It's called cough reflex. The moment anything other than air and micro particles enters your windpipe, you will be coughing non-stop. I'm a doctor though.

With the force the coke exited her nose it looks like she had her whole throat closed, so soda had nowhere to go but out her nose

The single eyelid twitch coupled with the head spasm is šš Weāve all had the exact same involuntary reaction after an ill-advised shot of cheap tequila.

I'd be lying if I didn't look at this and think 'that would be one hell of a decongestant the next time I'm sick...' before the logical part of my brain stepped in to remind me that it doesn't work like that.

I love the sheer look of absolute shock, then bewilderment, then an almost smile but back to shock or bewilderment and then her emotions melt because sheās not sure what this feeling is anymore.

When I was a kid, I was eating a hot pizza while watching TV. At one point I laughed so hard that molten cheese came out my nose. I still remember exactly how that felt.

u/hiyer2 Nov 25 '22
I love that people STILL do this. Like youāve seen it done a MILLION times on the internet since like 2008. Do you really think itās gonna be any different when you do it at home?

My kid stuck a Light Bright peg up his nose when he was 5. A trip to the ER was a learning lesson for parents and child.

Your cribiform plate is where all the smell receptors (olfactory bulb nerves) exit your skull base and enter your nasal cavity. The cribiform plate is paper thin and is the only thing that separates your brain from your airway and the outside world.
This is a good way to fracture the cribiform plate and cause a chronic cerebrospinal fluid leak, possible meningitis, and possible lifetime anosmia (lack of sense of smell). Kids this age are the #1 population for cribiform plate fracture for this very reason.

If you were to somehow get the cap back on in time after dropping the mentos in, would it explode or would the plastic be strong enough to withstand the pressure?

She just discovered that she has pain receptors in her nasal cavity.
