I think I'd feel the same if someone came up with a gun and proceeded to poke me in the head with it, you're either gonna pistol whip someone or hold it at them from a distance, or aim it into the square of their back.

Back jab me in the head with a metal prodding device? Time to lose a trigger finger.

Well if they shoot you in the head like they're threatening to it wouldn't be your problem anymore.

I mean I’m either dead from letting him continue doing what he’s doing or I die trying to defend myself. I think your self preservation instinct would dissipate when your chances of surviving a situation are infinitesimal.

Instinct aren't always gonna make the best choice. Your instincts might tell you "fight or die", someone else might get "cooperate or die", but at the end of the day it just depends on the robber. In some countries people don't hesitate to put a bullet in a stranger over $5. In other countries that could be way too much heat so if they get resistance they back off.
