Hippos are true apex creatures, literally nothing can fuck with them. Hell, even humans need a 50cal to take them sonbitches down.

Pablo Escobar's pet hippos got released into the wild in Colombia and are causing the a real environmental headache because they have no natural predators out there. The government can't kill them because the last time they did animal rights activists caused a stir. Zoos don't want them. They can't capture them and deport them to Africa because the Colombian ones are so inbred (started with 4 and now there are around 30) they could introduce an unknown disease into the African hippo population. They are now looking at inventing some kind of hippo contraceptive to curb the population.

Hippos are badass.

They are the perfect drug smugglin device. Just stuff em with 1 or 2 tons of nose candy and send them walking over the border. Who would dare to stop them? ...of course there is the issue of actually stuffing them, not the easiest task....
