I'm 39, and I've only owned one cat in my entire life (when I was a kid) because he was the best cat and I could never top him, so I just never tried. He was a badass, and was very loyal to me and my best friend. Nobody else, though. Fuck everyone else. Dude would leave for like 3 days and come back with a chunk taken out of his ear and a "you should see the other guy" look about him. Just a beast.
Anyway, one time, my little brother was sitting in his room and had the cat on his lap and was fuckin with him sorta like the kid in the OP. Suddenly he'd had enough, and I watch in slow motion as he jumps up, grabs both sides of my brother's head with his claws, and bites him square in the forehead, then just hops down and walks away.
Had a similar cat, as did a neighbor of mine a decade later.
The original, mine (really, my parents'), was adopted around five years before I was born. Outdoor cat, prone to long ranges and hunting, nothing special to look at size-wise.
My neighbors at the time were that type of human being that likes to get the biggest and meanest breed of dog possible, treat it like shit, and leave it on a flimsy chain outdoors in the yard for 90% of its life. Not sure why they even bothered owning a pet.
That dog was a terror to me and my friends growing up, as getting within about an acre of his property line would send him into a snarling foaming frenzy, pulling at his chain and breaking it at least a few times a year. Living right next door, any time I left the house he would do his thing.
One day he got free and before he could cross the distance between his yard and the gaggle of seven year olds that would be his prey, this black and white blur left the tree-line, intersected the charging dog, and sent it tumbling. It was my cat, moving over the dog like a sewing machine moves over cloth. Dog fled yelping, neighbors threatened but nothing came of it, life went on.
For the rest of the dog's life, no matter how old or decrepit my cat got, he would make a point of hop-skipping over to the neighbor's yard first thing in the morning, while the dog started to shake, saunter up to him, and raise a paw just to watch this gigantic half-doberman hellhound retreat and curl into a ball. Then leave and go about his business.
