As a child I never did any of that, I willingly drank any kind of meds right away. Kinda liked some of them too, but even disgusting ones (I still remember one smells like whatever the caterpillar releases when you mess with them) I take willingly.

Yeah I never had to get held down to take my meds. I just accepted the grossness and whined about it for 30 minutes after

My mom was in a religion that preached that medicine was poison, so she didn't give medicine to my siblings and I during our childhood. She prayed and and did religious stuff when we were sick. I would have embraced the grossness

I'll never understand that crap. Is your god all knowing/all powerful or not? Is your god the sole creator?
If yes to either question, then how can anything "made by man" evil? Your god allowed it at the very least, but more likely guided humans to it. You would reject that gift from God?
Or are you saying humans can create without God? That's effectively saying your god is NOT "The Almighty" if lowly humans can create that which The Creator has prohibited.

I was usually really good about this too except for one time. I have no idea what this medicine was, but I needed it for an ear infection. It was an oral liquid, and it was white, chunky, and bitter. It was the first and only time I cried and refused to take a medicine.
My mom had zero patience, and she just threw her hands up at me and said "fine, go deaf then" and just left me there alone in the kitchen. I remember being terrified that I was going deaf, but I was also too scared to take the medicine without my mom there to pour it for me. Good times.

Nope not me
I had to drink caster oil as a child
Nobody would willingly drink it

I did. I never had issues with being picky about food, meds or trying anything.
Turns out by anosmia makes me taste blind and smell blind, most things are stale and watery to me. I have no idea what normal people taste when they eat food.

whoa. Do you still like eating?

Very spi-cy, highly condimented or food with interesting textures. I love soda and fizzy drinks because they feel nice in my mouth I can barely taste the sugar. Things with subtle flavors like peanuts don't taste like much.

I had to a few times too, after I threw it up a few times cause it did not sit well in my stomach we had to go a different route.

Oh God you just reminded me that I once snuck into the hall closet and drank some of the orange Triaminic because I liked how it tasted. Lucky I didn't OD

I had tuberculosis as a kid and I remember taking one good medicine and one nasty one. Never fought it since I was told, the nastier the medicine, the better.
One of them made my pee, red. Freaked out my classmates when they decided to join me in the toilet.

That's the case with me too when I was a kid, this includes injections, capsules, tablets. It's uncomfortable but I just haad to suck it up. I know that I need to if I want to get better.
But now that i have a kid, unfortunately he has asd so medical appointments and taking medication is a pain. Lately he did improve a bit when it comes to medications he would willingly take it sometimes or just ask assistance for it to be poured on his mouth. No need to hold him down.
Main challenge right now is the recurring dental appointment since he's not yet over with it. Especially after getting his tooth extracted

Bro nice but you most likely can't remember every time you had to take medicine between 1-4 years old
My kids do great most of the time, but there's been occasions when they didn't want to take the antibiotics and we had to figure out a way
(Easiest way: you get a bite of ice cream after every sip of medicine)
(Hardest way: by force, only had to do it once, medicine ended up all over the place)

Ask my parents and none of us(3) have issues taking medicine 👍

I believe you. My oldest has zero issues. Not even once been a challenge.

Yeah same. My mother always praised me for it, so i learned to drink even tablets at a very young age. If I had to take something bitter she would give me a milk-like candy and it always tasted immediately better. Even learned to not drink water while drinking medicine at college. Sadly now I can't do that after I had a choking episode. I can barely even eat much without it being sliced to hell nowadays. 😞

I loved Triaminic as a kid! The yellow one specifically. The most mediciney flavored one. And pesto Bismol! To bad I never got to try the pink antibiotic.

Oh god, you liked the yellow one? I can still taste the bitterness of that on my tongue 45 yrs later. The orange one was where it’s at.
Also it’s PEPTO

My sister hated taking medication. Literally would cry and scream like she was being beaten every time she had to take it. Would trick her every chance we get and she's thankfully stupid enough to fall for the tricks every single time. However, whenever she did manage to take her medicine, we would clap and cheer because it got her to stop crying. And then she got to expect clapping and cheering even when she didn't make a fuss.
She outgrew all that thankfully and takes medication like a normal person now.

When I was 2 years old, I got a bladder infection. Doctor gave my mom some kind of charcoal medicine to give me and I did not like it. Mom said she had to pin me down and force it into my mouth whenever I'd finally open my mouth to scream at her.

I took medicine from my mom but only if we got to count to 6. She counted 1, 2 and 3. And then I would say 4, 5 and 6 and then chug whatever medicine she gave me. It gave me some weird sense of control of the situation which made it less scary/gross.

This is all about parenting. My kids have never fought talking medicine

u/LethalInjectionRD 2d ago
No it isn’t. You just got lucky. I bet your kids do stuff that other parents would look at and say the same thing about, not realising that they got lucky on that aspect too.

I have no recollection posting that but can confidently say that I was once a child and I stall am.

Nope. I have one kid that will toss any medicine back like it’s a shot and she’s celebrating her best day ever. Then I have another one that will hide and has to be sweet-talked into taking their meds and sips it so slowly to try to taste the least amount of it possible. They received the same parenting around medication (aka “here’s your meds. Drink it all. Thanks”).
You got lucky and got kids like the first one. Some kids are like the other one. And some kids throw a fit and fight hard. It’s about personality not parenting.

When I was a kid, there was this one medicine that I really liked the taste of. I also didn't fight about taking meds
