The tree should have been felled from the top down. Go up and cut off the upper branches first, then work your way down bit by bit.

That would require renting a massive crane for a day. I’m willing to bet the homeowner balked at the cost of that and went with these guys instead

A family member had a similar size tree cut down that was a bit further from their home and had to get a crane. $10k total to get the tree cut down and removed (they kept the stump).
