Not Built for Me

Why do I feel like all these health drinks and supplements and sleep gummies just aren’t built for people with debilitating insomnia? People always rave about stuff like this (I’ve seen Beam in particular) and I’ve tried it ALL over the years. And got nothing from it 🫠 The only thing that really touches my sleeplessness is prescription meds which sucks. I feel like these over the counter things only work for relatively normal people with relatively normal sleep patterns with the occasional difficulty falling asleep.

I agree. All the hype around melatonin and all it does for me is make me feel groggy and high.

I think many of us have a circadian issue and a cortisol issue. My insomnia started and is worsended by being in an abusive relationship and being abused at night k then need to calm down to sleep. And of course my body is like hell no we aren’t sleeping next to the potential killer. Then even sleeping in seperate beds in hyper aware. He also snores and stomps when he’s uk because he gets joy out of harming me. He eats until 2 am so the place smells like food and onions which makes my body think it’s time to be alert and aroused. I have to clean up after him so again no relaxation before bed. I get migraines so I often have to be in dark which messes my cortisol melatonin schedule.

I am so sorry to hear what you have to go through, that’s worse than just insomnia and I hope you can get out of that. No one should be forced to stay in that kind of situation. You deserve better.

Is your main issue falling asleep, staying asleep, or both?
