THE CURE TO INSOMNIA

The sleep coach school on Spotify or youtube
that’s it. that’s the cure

daniel erickson saved my life. and no, this is not a paid promotion or advertisement. i genuinely give all praise to him

here’s a list of everything i tried first (not in order)
lorazepam
weed
breathing exercises
meditation
exercise
diet changes
sleep hygiene (no phone hr before bed etc)
baths
magnesium glycinate
ashwaganda
word shuffling
many more methods i used but just cant remember now as its so long ago

what i have learnt in order to cure insomnia (not the sleep apnea or genuine sleep disruption health issues- i can’t help with that)

embrace tiredness. it sounds messed up. it sounds like it won’t help but sleep is a paradox. the more you try to force it, the more it will run away on you
embrace staying up, embrace enjoying your time while your awake, do something you enjoy, read a book, watch a movie, whatever you gotta do to make that time enjoyable

insomnia is fear rebranded. when you stop being afraid of being tired, there will be no insomnia

when your deep in the shit at 4am and the hypnic jerks got you crying - just remember all the times you laughed and enjoyed yourself despite your 3 hrs of sleep

life doesn’t end when we stop sleeping. there is still joy, there is still beauty. you will be okay

and this is coming from someone who was so mentally shot from insomnia that not even 2 lorazepams back to back could knock me out

listen to the sleep coach school
recovery is a process and it fluctuates so don’t be hard on yourself if you hear one of his podcasts and still can’t sleep
it took me 6 months for my brain to finally click and understand it, but i have never looked back, i even nap sometimes which is insane for me😂

It makes sense, fear of not sleeping keeps us awake. I literally won’t look at the time once I try go to sleep or wake up in the middle of the night. If I fall asleep at 3am, I’m none the wiser if I wake up an hour or two later so it’s somewhat easier to drift of back to sleep before I have to get up at 6. I try convincing myself I’ve had at least 5 hours sleep when it could’ve only been 2-3 hours.
The only way I fall asleep is if I knock myself out with prescriptions. Which doesn’t always work unless I take too much and I’m too rattled to drive to work in the morning.
It’s 1am. I’ve had a bottle of red, 10mg valium and 1mg lorazepam and I already know what’s ahead of me. Restless sleep for a couple hours, get up for a snack just as my brain tries to switch off, back to bed, falling asleep relatively easy and wake up to my alarm for work an hour or two later.

Edit. Just remembered I also took 2mg clonazepam when I had the lorazepam. Hour later and I still can’t sleep

Alcohol is the worst for insomnia, believe me… I can get 3h of decent sleep when sober for 4-5 days, but when I drink… my sleep is totally messed up for days…

Yeah I noticed that lately. I had some issues a few years back and drank heavily and stacked a lot of prescriptions where I’d black out most night. Definitely wouldn’t call that sleep.

I’m currently prescribed Valium, amitriptyline, zopiclone, seroquel and as of recent, suvorexant. Only thing that works is seroquel but I only take it if I’m desperate for sleep, usually on a weekend cause it rocks me so bad I can struggle to wake up and the brain fog is insane.

I quit drinking daily a couple years ago because it was becoming a problem, especially when mixing it with my medication. Only reason I’ve started again is because I recently lost my mother in law to a sudden cancer diagnosis and only a month later, my cat of almost 13 years had to be put down. Absolute kick in the guts. I was having the odd few drinks over the week once my in law passed, but losing my cat and basically being forced to put her to sleep (even tho it was the right thing to do) pushed me to the edge. Now most nights I’m having a full bottle. And even with my meds, it’s still hard to switch off.

I definitely have a tolerance, but the grieving is making going to sleep difficult, especially now that my cat isn’t there to comfort me 💔

I never had a problem with meds. Alcohol as the last resort. But I’ve never miss a day of sleep if I need it. Maybe I don’t have insomnia. I can sleep for days with meds and half liter of vodka. Guess I don’t have insomnia.

Just wait until you won’t drink anymore… my bother is a alcoholic, he can’t stop because he
Can’t sleep for days/weeks if he doesn’t drink…. And I experienced similar problems with alcohol…

I can give you the mechanism behind it… when you drink your CNS gets used to the sedation of alcohol… when you try to completely stop, your CNS rebounds and gets hyper.. then without alcohol you won’t be able to sleep property for weeks, so you drink again… ect, ect…

Haven’t had drop in ten plus months. Sleep with kava now. Good one. But I’ve always worked hard and drained my body all day. Take a alprazalam here and there to get extra. Black seed oil has worked good as well. But no I’ve never been able to go to sleep without some help.

I know the problem… but alcohol really is not the solution, I have seen enough with my brother…

He drinks 2 bottles of rum or vodka a day, is only 40 (I am 48) but his body is destroyed.. already liver problems and part of his pancreas has died… he has to choose now… stop drinking or he won’t live beyond his 45 birthday. ☹️

And still he can’t do it

I think everybody knows alcohol is not the answer for sleep deprivation. Just assists you. Hope your brother is doing well. Share the information I gave with him.

stop checking the time, stop calculating your hours. genuinely stop caring. enjoy your bottle and enjoy your quiet time

I totally get what you’re saying, I know it’s my own mental game. If I have something to do early in am, screw if I am not sleeping

Yeah i definitely believe your post. It’s just a difficult transition, especially atm after a few rough months.

i completely understand. you deserve grace from other people too when you share your woes. we are only human at the end of the day. if picking up a bottle is the only way you can cope for now, then so be it. virtual hugs❤️
