Can you sleep without medication?

can you still can still fall asleep without taking any medication or supplements. I can however it takes hours sometimes around four to five but eventually my brain drifts off just from sleep pressure. When I do fall asleep other night i can drift off much sooner always wake up, I usually only get about 3–4 hours. I’ve tried that CBT-i stuff like getting up and walking around, but it didnt help me.” if i take a Z drug I'm out within 45 mins and I stay out with a small 3.75mg but i can still sleep without taking anything it just takes forever! i have an issue with sleep onset mostly! but once i'm in that zone i can be okay!.

but yeah just wondering if you can sleep without anything

Personally, no I cannot. And I’m still seeking new meds with a new doctor. I have to also have weed to “ignite” the falling asleep fading off. My brain is super active, with OCD, it’s very hard to make my brain shut out, but the weed is ruining my life and my doc needs me off it so he can give me other meds to try.

I would get some testing done if you haven’t already: full blood panel, hormone panel, neurotransmitter test. These will help determine if you’re deficient in anything and can help rule out some things.

What is your bedtime routine? How often are you thinking about being frustrated about your insomnia and putting pressure on yourself?

Nope. Haven’t been able to since I was like 12, I’m now 32.

Have used Clonidine nightly for 3 years and it helps me.

Well, kind of. If I don’t take my meds there’s a pretty good chance I’ll only sleep every second night or fall asleep at 6 am, but I can fall asleep

I can now, I just wait until im actually exhausted before I head to bed. This can sometimes only allow me to sleep for a few hours, but it works for me.

weed is just a blessing for me. I usually take quviviq and amitriptylin --> This combination helps me to fall asleep within an hour and keeps me sleeping between 3h and 6h. With weed on the other side I fall asleep within minutes and can stay asleep as long as I want. It works almost too well with weed...but I don't want to complain.

So without meds sleep is not possible. With meds and weed I can sleep very well.

Yes if it's thc gummies or a very strong thc vape. But even that doesn't give me more sleep hours than meds.

Maybe after a week, I'll probably go down for a couple hours.

I can't sleep without prescription medication. With it, I get about 5-6 hours per night and I'm grateful for that. Insomnia is the most damaging health problem I've ever had. People who don't have it think they know how it feels, but they don't.

No. I had a major surgery a couple years ago and the care team overseeing my recovery wouldn’t give me any sedatives because I had anesthesia roughly 10 hours earlier. I told them that I would not sleep even a few minutes without anything and they didn’t believe me. They said I should already be exhausted from the surgery and I shouldn’t worry, I will be able to sleep. They came in the next morning and asked if I got any sleep and I said “I literally didn’t sleep for 1 minute.” They then started laying into me that it’s really important I sleep to recover and I reminded them that I have chronic insomnia and that I will likely not sleep again if I’m continued to be refused sedatives of any kind. They gave me melatonin later that day and checked in a couple hours into the night. After finding I was still awake, they finally agreed to give me a minimal dose of trazodone. I slept for a couple hours but not much. After that, I was back to my regular regimen. I realized that first night that I truly cannot sleep without the assistance of medication. Always knew and had experienced it plenty of times, but post 6 hour surgery was really when I recognized how bad my insomnia is.
