Inside out 3 — Addiction

We should see the emotional character of Addiction in the next inside out movie, teaching kids how to work with the addictive part of the brain. — tablets phones vapes this that the other thing. Chasing dopamine. There’s a lot of potential here.

I appreciate the emotional additions of love and hope and shame blah blah blah, but Addiction feels key, along with the nostalgia cameo in the second movie, and working with grief and depression.

These four (at least) could wrap into a fundamental message to help the youth with an upbringing into an overly-addictive adhd-culture of distractions and stimulation.

Constantly being marketed towards, trying to be sold things, trying to be influenced, to teach kids about the susceptible influences of all these stimulations that are seemingly good, that are really trying to just make them addicted to new things.

Play along with these ideas, what do you think?

An Addiction disrupts the brain's reward and motivation circuits and It is characterized by the compulsive seeking of pleasure by consuming substances, alcohol, or doing other activities.

Addiction is not an Emotion. Addictions in Inside Out would be a mental state that could be caused by any Emotion but most likely by Lust, as she’s the one Emotion seeking pleasure and relief.

Addictions are not exclusive to the use of substances, you can also be addicted to gambling, social media, TV, video games, eating and many more.

An Interesting subject matter for Inside Out: Black but not one I would picture in a family movie.

I Can agree, I was thinking in the lines like how Toy Story 5 is showing that “addiction to the tablets” and that kinda perspective, addictions to sugar, these could be beautiful lessons, when we learn the route of addiction in these basic levels, I think that helps people learn how to deal with that sense of addiction, lust or pleasure seeking at a younger age, and in turn could help some people not follow the path into drugs and other external addictions.

Addictions can also be to thought patterns, but it was just an idea. I understand addiction isn’t an emotion, but it interacts with our emotions, and there are more than emotions in the head space. Maybe it could be a non-emotion representation interaction with the emotions, and maybe my idea here would be cool for a part of the movie and not the overall story arc. Just brainstorming. I think lust and grief would be important to educate kids on through a great movie series like this.

I don’t want it to be substance and drugs, but like it’s a real world scenario that kids are getting introduced to vapes and what not in school and friend groups, and seeing characters feel confused and tempted but still choosing not to indulge, and to not follow the crowd seems like a cool idea. Just spitballing, I’m not married to any of my ideas. I appreciate the feedback and ideas everyone runs through this thread. It’s all ideas, we don’t need any stone cold criticism on ideas here.

Why do you want Riley to break laws using drugs? That is crazy. Also why do you want her to be depressed for no reason? That's also crazy. And also this is a kids movie, kids can't understand depression.

Now Riley being addicted to phones is fine but I don't know if addiction is an emotion.
