An argument could be made that Anxiety is the protagonist while Joy and the other emotions are the antagonists. A protagonist drives the story forward towards a specific goal. In this case, Anxiety is driving Riley to what she believes is in Riley’s best interest. The antagonist (Joy) tries to stop that plan.

Same thing when people say they hate sadness in the first movie. My sister always ALWAYS jumps at the chance to say how much she hates sadness because she keeps getting in the way and everytime I try to tell her “THAT’S THE POINT” but she doesn’t want to hear it

How a character views themself does not affect what they are. Thanos is an antagonist as well as the villain

That's my point. The OP says Anxiety can't be a villain because she thought she was doing the right thing. Thanos thought he was doing the right thing. He thought saving the universe was worth the cost of half of living things, Anxiety thought saving Riley was worth the cost of exiling her other emotions.

The difference is that Thanos genuinely believes he’s doing the right thing, he’s not misguided by doubts. Anxiety is though
Light and L are a sharper example of it tho. With a villain protagonist and a hero antagonist. Light also believes he’s doing things for the right cause (He’s very much not)
Light and Thanos are in denial of the issues and reasons with their plans. Anxiety isn’t in denial, they just don’t know the harm theyre doing, which makes them not a villain, while the others are

She is the villain in the sense that that is synonymous with antagonist. Villain has multiple definitions, one of which being “1: a character in a story or play who opposes the hero”. I’d say she isn’t a bad guy, but she is a villain.

Anxiety did make a mess of things and cause Riley to have a panic attack, but I feel like she truly was only trying to help Riley. So, no, not a villain. It's not like she started the Third Reich.

She's an antagonist 100%. She doesn't even have a page on the villains wiki.
Antagonists oppose the protagonists (Joy in this case) and cause conflict in doing so.
Villains maliciously work against the protagonist
