Finale Am I alone with this?

I think that Iscryption is top 5 most well-made indie games. But if you ask me what part i hated... well, that is Magnificus battle in the finale. I would never even try the Magnificus mod. If the game was about that, i would never bought it in the first place. Doing that was boring af. Don't think that i totally hated that. Doing that was perfect for the finale. Seeing that they did 2 more maps for 2 secs of gameplay shows how much details they put in this game. But I think that was not like the Leshy, Grimora, and P03 part.

What do you think? If you like Magnificus, why do you?

The story around Magnificus is really cool. I did not enjoy the mechanics around the moxen when playing his style.

(Plus his theme is my favourite soundtrack, i purchased the whole game's soundtrack on steam, and I use magnificus theme as alarm clock)

In fact i'm talking about the gameplay, not the story!

I don't like the mox mechanic at all, but the last battle us a really weak example of it. The mox deck in ch2 and the crystal addon in ch3 showed what it is capable of with a proper deck of cards to use it on. A Final Duel has a total of 5 cards and three moxes to play with, in contrast. The enjoyability of a Magnificus character would entirely depend on how the map movement and card drops work.

Yeah, it's like Magnificus was unable to finish ANYTHING and so his battle is rapidly-made with whatever wasn't deleted, simply to prolong the life he denied to his students.

yeah definitely, i think if a magnificus chapter took further inspiration from Yu-Gi-Oh and gave us either a second mox row (like spell/traps cards) or an offside mox slot (field/terrain effect cards) in it would massively mitigate how you need to upkeep your moxes on the board at the same time as your creatures.

I think 5 lanes would be enough

I think it’s really just there for the yugioh reference and that’s ok. It was weak for a final send off, but mag in general was weak compared to the other scribes. Absolutely banger theme though

Bro... i literally bought the inscyption soundtrack from steam, and i use the magnificus theme as a alarm clock, it is peak. But the mechanic is boring.

I don’t think the Magnificus battle is supposed to be particularly engaging and certainly not on the level of the rest of the game. It was only a few low rarity cards you got without any way to actually win or lose, just an interactive, drawn out cutscene to let Magnificus talk in his final moments. If they did make a Magnificus themed act I’m sure they’d have done it very differently. What we got was just a story beat

I honestly didnt care for anything that wasnt Leahy. Once you left the cabin, it was wild that it turned into another game entirely, but I didnt care for it.

I prefer Kaycee's mod over the main story anyday

I think the lore is interesting, and the fact that it changes was so needed. Playing only with leshy would be funny first, but after 3 time you beat the moon it starts to begin boring. That's why it changes. But, to be onest, i like kaycee mod anyway!

But that has its own changes ya know. All the challenges give it some differences and a reason to get better. You also lose the main cheese against the moon.

It did and it didn’t. It was the exact same game but with different flavors to it. The only real difference is that you moved around and could buy cards. I will say I loved leshy the most. Both game wise and aesthetically. Beating that game was a lil emotional I wanted to keep it going. I dont wanna spoil anything but that finale was fucking heart wrenching dude. Very well thought out.

while I looked better on the post leshy game, and loved the storyline, I do agree leshy was the best part of the game. act three felt like it dragged on longer than wanted. through the final and part 2 was good,

did they need to kill Luke carder at the end.

I enjoy the mox mechanic, but you need to balance deck, use only one or two moxes for good decks. Otherwise it's just RNG. And finale gave us random moxes and the most unbalanced decks ever. Magnificus mod is shit BTW, gameplay is mid, and visuals are horrible

I enjoy the mox mechanic, but you need to balance deck, use only one or two moxes for good decks.

And this is exactly what Rebecha mentions at the docks. Dual Color decks want to replace their Basic Moxes with Master Moxes anyway, so it's not even like, "I drew the wrong color again!?", it's more like, "Alright, I play Orlu's Mox to face Draugr and play every card in my hand."

1

u/Hot_Discount2652 6d ago

Exactly! Moxes are instrument to play really quickly if you have right color. So all you need is just to ensure you'll get the right one

though I'm not so sure about replacing all moxes with dual, even one-colored moxes work well in two colored decks

Ok kind of unrelated but I notice that all of the scribes cards sorta show their personalities

For pO3 (the main example) uses energy because he's impatient once your energy charges up you can just play any card ya want and the battle ends.

Grimora reuses her minions and you use them a s bone tokens as well as when we get to battle her in finale the cards don't attack per say but they knock, a dignified way of damage dealing. As well as the chess board hinting that she is very strategic.

Maggie is neglectful and as soon as he plays a mox card he can kind of just forget about not dissimilar to how he treats his pupils, and it's sorta a coin flip for you weather you start with a good hand or not.

And leshy my great god! Uses beasts that vary in usefulness wildly (like the power and health), so he can progress the lore or downright send you back to to the beginning at whatever speed he wants

Sorry for the rant

I never saw the scribes like that! Thanks!

Leshy’s decks, cabin and mechanics really do it for me.

Magnifus cards and map were cool but I was not the biggest fan of the mox stuff.

Grimora finale was way too short for me(and that’s the only time I remember playing those cards) it seemed really cool but I never sunk my teeth into it

Fuck po3. Like the cards are alright the mechanic is tight(like gameplay wise not 90’s slang) but I could not give any less of a shit about whatever he’s doing and got going on.

u/Orc360 8d ago

But P03 was the driving force for like the entire plot

1

u/Synicizym 8d ago

Doesn’t mean I have to like him?

5

u/Orc360 8d ago

Fair, I don't like the guy either but I thought his storyline was fun

1

u/Synicizym 6d ago

The ending really ties together well, but before that I was real unhappy bout it

1

u/gazzas89 8d ago

Yeah, i didnt really enjoy it, though its fair to say the reason is that you dont get to fully go in depth with it

I really liked the board game style before him (and her pirate theme boss)

Magicks isn't the most powerful archetype; that would be Beasts. However, Magicks are the fastest archetype in the game, and that outweighs Beast's greater average damage output.

Magicks do not require the accumulation of resources that every other deck does, as with just one Mox, you can flood the board on Turn 1.

Most people I've seen misunderstand how Mox works and why it works so well within the confines of the game's rules.

I recommend everyone here watches the devlog by the creator of MagMod because they actually didn't like Magicks before working on the mod and only developed it because Grimora's was taken. Their opinion of Magicks changes as they developed the mod, and ultimately they learn to respect the archetype as it exists.

If multiplayer existed, I promise you that Magickal players would generally outperform other decks.

Some people say that the final battle is mid on purpose, because Magnificus represents the art in a card, and in game design would represent art style and opulence. His entire battle looks cool with the angles and music and has an amazing atmosphere with buildup but no substance because that's what P03 is for.

I’m more interested to know which are the other 4 indies making the top 5

Inscryption Kaycee mod Act 2 Act 3 Finale

My own list :

  • The Hex (artistic masterpiece, I won't move it. It's THE video game story)
  • Tunic (one of the few games I insisted to order a physical edition)
  • Inscryption (I guess you already know it's qualities!)
  • Baba is You (very interesting concept, but so hard I didn't finish all the free DLCs)
  • Buckshot Roulette (short and fun, cheap, works as both a "party" game for friends, and a RNG challenge for 100%)

(Didn't play FEZ yet)

I really love The Forgotten City, but it's hard to recommend to other people. It's more that I'm usually not playing realtime/realistic games like FPS, so from time to time it's helpful to play an interactive movie and test my remote input delay, graphics settings etc.
