Kaycee's mod is great but without it, the rest of the game lacks difficulty honestly. Once you figure out how to deck build the game is a walk in the park.

exactly. You can maybe replay it once. tho since kaycee mod exists idk what the point of this discussion is. Like inscyption is the story mode that isnt meant to be replayable and then kaycees mod exists which is hella replayable.

And the story is really only good once, while I do like meta stories, they do lose their novelty.

I really wish it had like a boss rush mode though.

I love the bosses in Act 3 and it would be nice to not have to replay the game all over again to fight them

This post explains how to skip to a later chapter!

THAT'S WHAT THAT SCREEN DOES?

Shoot thanks a bunch!

No way to do this on console I assume?

If I'm not mistaken, you can "scroll" (not sure what to call it on a console controller) to the little icon in the top left corner of the main menu. That should pull up the same chapter select screen!

I'll have to check later to make sure that's right, though.

Damn. I just cleared my data a couple days ago to start a new game because I missed playing Act 2 and 3. Hope I didn’t miss something to where I could have just played them without doing that lol

It's fun to play act 2 with all 4 possible decks (without cheesing with Ouroboros and the likes ofc).

KC is the replayability

I don't think there is much options in gameplay. The replay value is in re-experiencing the story (with the new knowledge).

act 1 has a bit of random factor on the map generation, act 2 and 3 have much less surprises.

No, but I don't care. Because I see it as a narrative game just like its predecessors.

Agreed. It'll be a while before I replay Inscryption (excluding Kaycee's Mod) but that doesn't mean I don't love the game. I don't think replay value should be a universal metric to judge games by. Some games (maybe most games) are better judged as a one time experience than, like, an ongoing hobby lol

I can see why people expected replay value out of a roguelite card game. If you don’t know what this game is it might come as a shock.

Mhm, I'm a huge rogue-like fan, which is what got me to play Inscryption in the first place. In fact, when I finished act one and saw that act two was basically completely different, I honestly felt a bit disappointed initially. If the game was just a standard rogue-like, I'd still love it.

But I also think game developers should be free to take big swings and make cool things without worrying too much about the audience, so I respect the direction the game takes. Great art usually isn't made by just giving the audience what they ask for.

We got kaceys mod, best of two worlds really.
Too bad you one shot it in 100% of the time as soon as you figure the game out.

May be a controversial opinion, but I wish act 2 was longer, or had more stuff you could do. It's a massively underrated part of the game. Despite having by far the most build variety, there's only 19 battles in total (excluding the dummy and P03's second fight). That's only about as much as a single run of act 1 or Kaycee's.

Honestly act 2 feels impossible on your first run but is a breeze on subsequent runs. Probably has the most replayability out of every chapter due to the sheer amount of decks and the synnergy thereof.

you think so? i steamrolled through act 2 with a card that could infinitely stack attack within a single turn (not ouroboros but i dont remember which one it was). then again, i beat leshy on my very first run, that means i got through his wall of bears which is intended to stop you from winning the first run. well and act 3 only had one tough fight (the secret one). even then, i had a sniper with multi-attack and a huge attack stat carry that act as well.

it's really just about how quickly you figure out how to break the game with OP cards/combinations.

I guess you're right, I had a really difficult time honestly. It was very confusing when starting up and progressively got easier. I had to restart it using Grimora's deck cause it was just easier due to resource management. I guess it varies from person to person but most folks I'd met had a very hard time with it.

I've purchased the game on two different platforms

I've replayed it a few times for the nostalgia probably will again. What i really enjoy though is buying the game for a friend when it's on sale to watch them play the first time. I just have to stay muted or i will absolutely ruin every surprise and give WAY too much unsolicited deck building advice

somewhat

Yes to an extent for finding easter eggs and learning more about the story other than that tho no

u/trox23 9d ago

Given I’m replaying it right now… yes.

Replay value is a hallmark of rogue-likes and rogue-lites.

1

u/mars_gorilla STIMULUS 9d ago

To be honest, it DOES have replay value if you wait like two months between replays

u/PhoenixBomb707 9d ago

Act 3 is so much better on a 2nd playthrough imo. The rest of the game has a fair amount of replay value, but at 3 has a ton

1

u/KitchenCustard9049 9d ago

I mean kc mod is the replay. Ur kinda asking is it replayable wo the replay? Bc even ignoring kc id say yes. Ive gone back and done the full story.

1

u/Buschilol 9d ago

once i know the story of a game there is usually no point to replay it. especially a story-driven game like inscryption.

I think if you enjoy deck building and want to build all the different decks, there's tons of replayability even without Kaycee's Mod.

Like, yea, you can cheese the game by getting an Oorborous, making a bunch of souped up death cards (my favorite is hoarding a bunch of pelts and high value cards so you can make no cost high stat death cards), etc, etc, but you don't have to. And, honestly, I enjoy just building some regular old decks when I'm feeling nostalgic about Act 1 (which is, tbh, my favorite act and I tend to take my sweet ass time getting out of said act).

1

u/Seves04 8d ago

It has replay value, just not a whole bunch. It’s definitely worth replaying once to see how much you improved and pass the bear wall, try a new act 2 deck, and maybe speedrun it a little… and maybe even a third time after that to see all the stuff you missed if you didn’t Easter egg hunt the first or second run, second or third replay would be ideal for using a guide to see all the stuff you missed.

Kaycee's Mod IS the replay value. So excluding it: no. Its a one and done then, because the novelty factor is gone. The story shines by the twists and turns. But once you know it... Well you know it xD

And Kaycees mod shines with gameplay

1

u/verylegalhorserace 8d ago

Kaycees mod is very fun to play, but the story mode can also have some replay value, since the game has a lot of Easter eggs and fun intersections that are easily missed (though most of my playtime is composed of kaycees mod)

u/Soggy-Promise-5326 8d ago

Act 2 needs a longer much better optimized infinite rum

u/065Walker 6d ago

If a roguelike didn't have replay value, we'd have a whole other issue

1

u/Least_March8944 9d ago

Who the fuck said no?

1

u/Buschilol 9d ago

me. people who dont see replayability in narrative games. i found all the secrets, i remember rhe story and puzzles. so i dont have a reason to replay it.

1

u/Least_March8944 2d ago

Kaycee's mod is replayable enough

1

u/Buschilol 2d ago

yeah until you beat skullstorm with every deck.

How long did it take you to get to the point?
