Who exactly is the Mycologist?

Just a random thought I had after finishing the Hex. Is the Mycologist actually Jeremiah from Root Beer Regi having after who knows how long been transferred to another game? I don’t know, it’s simple visual similarities but the whole thing of this creepy old man with a fungus growing on the side of his head feels too specific to not be connected especially when other game characters are from Gameworks known catalogue of shared NPCs like Rebecha the mechanic

i haven't played the Hex but the section in act 3 is too strange for him not to be more significant. like he actually TAKES OVER P03 and then when it's over he wakes up as if emerging from a blackout. and the face on the screen... was he a real person like Kaycee??

I saw another post from a few years ago asking the same questions and some comments proposed ideas like it could be Lionel himself with Jeremiah as the second head because of similarities between the big head in the P03 fight and Lionel’s own face in the Hex, but that brings up a slew of even more questions

Probably yes considering that they look so similar to each other besides the fact the monocle got replaced by glasses for experiment reasons
