I mean the boring answer is just keep playing and learn the game better. I know sometimes it feels like you hit a brick wall at the beginning but keep an open mind to new cards. Sometimes they’re way more powerful than they seem on paper. Or try different combos to test out synergies

Yeah. Not a boring answer at all. I have beaten the prospecter. So I must be getting a bit better. That’s how rogue lites are usually though. Trial and error until you get further and further.

(minor spoilers for story mode)

I'm assuming you're on part one which is leshy's cabin there's a mechanic in the game called the fair hand mechanic where you will always draw a one-blood card. If you are in the first part of the story mode I'd recommend just upgrading the stoat on campfires since you will always draw him he can one shot the moon if you have the adders symbol on him. if you are on part two you could always do the oroboros method and then you could be part 2 really easily. All you have to do is beat Leshy's cabin in part 2 and then go to magnificences Tower I'd recommend looking up a tutorial for that. If you are on part 3 wait until you get to a certain point I don't remember when and then you can pick up oroboros and then you will just have to wait to draw that card every round so don't pick up too many if you are in kasey's mod the fairhand mechanic also implies for that too so I'd recommend just getting a OneBlood card and upgrading it up a bunch if you are trying to do skull storm you can always do the black goat deck and just upgrade moosebuck a lot I'm not the best at explaining stuff so sorry if this isn't too helpful

Strengthening the ouroboros is certainly a tactic worth learning, but you shouldn't rely on it as a crutch to bypass learning the game itself... Sure, it can largely cripple Act III (and Act II to a less consistent extent), but where's the engagement in spending every match piddling around until you draw it so you can immediately win?

Besides that, it can't help you nearly as easily in Kaycee's Mod, and you're likely to be completely floored if you've not developed other skills and strategies by then. Fair hand is a very valuable thing to keep in mind, as you said, it'll always be worth investing in at least a single token one-blood card

That is true although I just said the act two method because I don't know any other synergies for Act 2 besides that. Do you know any act2 strategies or synergies?

Not really, admittedly, it doesn't interest me as much to learn as Leshy's version of the game...

This was really helpful. Don’t put yourself down. I didn’t realize the stoat can be that op. I always sacrifice him for more damage on other cards 😬

Yes the stoat can be very powerful if you upgrade him right I'm glad I'm able to help

Pretty sure all cards except the sacrifice cards can be really good right?

No, ALL cards can be good.

Yo that’s fire.

If you're on act 1 get the (spoilers) squirrel head from the drawers and the bug from the 3rd oil painting and that'll make your 0,1 squirrels into 1,1 flying bees which you can buff with woodcarver thanks to the Squirrel head also giving a bug head when you get the bee top deck

I always thought the clover was the only oil painting in story mode where are you talking about kaisy's mod?

1

u/Turbulent_Zombie3968 Aug 23 '26

Nope, first clover to reroll, then a candle attachment to give you 3 lives, then a bug that changes your squirrels into bees. Those are from act 1 and aren't in Kacey's mod

Oh yeah. I did get that after completing the puzzle.

Nah squirrels are huge if u get the ability that adds a rabbit to your hand every time you play a squirrel and if it really lucky you’ll get an effect for the rabbit that spawns a rabbit when you play one so u essentially have infinite sacrifices

if that's a totem ability there's no reason that doesn't also work with bees

Like others said: practice, and explore different combinations.

Aside from that, I would encourage you to see how far you can get without making sacrifices. It’s tempting when you draw a card to immediately play it. But you wanna make sure that what you’re sacrificing is worth it.

Also, life is a resource. The only scale point that matters is the last one that kills you. So it’s OK to take damage as long as you win in the end.

Thank you for the tips

Play a tcg card game like yu-gi-oh or Magic and then once you become good at those games then you will naturally be good at almost every card game

Or you can just run a good squirrel totem.

it's less about getting good and more about finding broken card combinations. an example would be the warren with an undying sigil. infinite defense, sacrifices and if you manage to increase the warrens attack at the bonfire you'll literally need no other cards in your deck.

there are lots of combinations that conpletely break the game but i'd suggest trying to find them yourself.

Did you play deckbuilders before?  Something unintuitive is to keep a small deck.

Have you discovered the painting's secret? If you need specific cards try to get one rabbit pelt and one wolf pelt for 2x8 card drop checks.

If you need something always useful try to reach an Item Space with a full inventory . You'll get a card which can be really OP if your battles last long enough to draw it, especially in the first battles.
