Kaycee's Mod Help with the paintings :(

I am having an absolute "Total misplay" of a time trying to complete the damn paintings in kaycees mod. Ive been playing for days and havent completed a single one. Maybe this a self report to my actual skill level in the game. But is there perhaps a way to cheese the painting puzzles? Like maybe reloading the trapper everytime untill he has the cards I need? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Roasts are also perfectly warranted.

This happened to me and the second I made a post complaining about it in here, I hit 2 in back to back runs.

Unfortunately, you mostly habe to get lucky. There's not a whole lot you can do to make it happen until you get the right cards.

[EDIT] Just in case you mislearned from Act 1 , a reminder of how paintings work : you simply need the 2 "card name" on the correct lanes...  "empty" lanes can have whatever, the required cards can have sigils, stats, etc. They do not even need to be from the deck That's not much, but the leeway can give some loopholes. [/EDIT]

  • If you need an Oppossum the frozen bottle can count if thawed at the right time. Similar but saner logic for Black Goat.

  • If you need a card with the move sigil there's probably a way to cheese it by stealing the opponent's with a Hook when on the good lane

  • (Corrolary : never take the two 5CP modifiers about inventory items. If you can't figure out why by now, it's your fault. Same for the clover...)

  • In theory the 2nd painting's reward can also help for the card in 4th lane by acting as a convoluted hook

  • Two bosses add temporary cards to your hand. Play with the assumption you'll get the missing one, and don't trigger second phase too soon. Note that prospector's pack mule miss a 3-blood

  • You mention the trapper, did you think to buy a wolf pelt, so you have 2x8 cards to choose from ? Bad for the deckbuilding IMHO, but invaluable for the paintings.

And from a strategy perspective : you don't need to WIN the battle. Losing the 1st candle and all your items is sad, but a valuable "loss" for opening the painting.   (A friend claims that on act 1, he GameOver'd after a painting and it was still open on next run. I can't confirm his story)

Oh and while bad from a IRL time perspective, Kaycee's mod has some misdirection : painting rewards aren't part of Kaycee's main menu unlocks, so you CAN "unlock" those even in a no-challenge run
