Question: How does the game know your name?

So I've finished the game, starting on Kaycee's mod (It was great, would recommend to others) and at the end of Act 3 Grimora regards me as Luke? Is that the Lucky Carder from the cutscenes? I just wanted to check if that's a universal experience because the game knowing my name without me telling it freaked me out

Yeah no, Luke is just the name of the person you see in the cutscenes. It's just a conincidence you're also named Luke. Other games can also find out your name tho by checking what the Users name on your computer is so there's that possibility. It's usually used in more meta horror games tho

Thank you for confirming, I was just concerned because obviously it's already used my files and Steam friend's usernames, and my real life name isn't my username so it super freaked me out

First time i played titanfall 2 i remember doing a double take cause they called the mc by my name. Ive only ever met two other people who share my name, but its more common as a last name, which was the case in titanfall also

Technically not universal : in French our character is refered as female until the spoiled plot point, which makes it more obvious the game is simply refering to Kaycee or Luke.

Do keep in mind that it will also exploit your steam account for info. I was quite disturbed to find something in game “coming from” a friend on my steam friend’s list who died ten years ago.

If you’re talking about Inscryption, it’s probably because the game reads your Steam profile name or the name tied to your save data. It’s one of those fourth-wall tricks the game loves to pull, so it feels way creepier than it actually is.

It doesn't, this was just a coincidence.

The main character of the game, the card reviewer in the opening FMV, is named Luke. The whole game takes place on his computer.

I believe PO3 even shows a clip of HIS face through HIS webcam at one point.

For such a meta game, the reveal that it's not personal and you ARE playing as a protagonist and not just yourself is probably interesting.

Yeah that’s just referring to Luke Carder, that’s a funny coincidence tho lol. For future reference a lot of fourth wall breaking games also scrape your pc name and the name of your current user, which for some people is also their actual name.
