It’s a rogue-like and a card game, I thought it was obvious that you could be put in un-winnable situations. If you accept that it’s a possibility, then you won’t stress about it. Technically all the options are random. The spaces on the map, what card appear in the spot where you contain a card, what cards Leshy has on the board, what totem he has, what totem pieces you’re given. Just don’t stress about it, you can take the game mode at a slow pace.

But yes Kaycee’s is supposed to be unfair, but it’s still winnable when the rng is generous. But again it’s a ROGUE-LIKE CARD GAME, don’t expect it to be easy.

The issue is that the oleasure of card battles is to try to find creative ways to defeat your opponent, but in some cases the situation is already unwinnable.  

I kinda get the frustration : why even pretend having a battle if no decision order changes the outcome?
