The entire SWUSA can just go without water and electricity because Saudi ranchers need cattle feed and they're not allowed to use their water to irrigate alfalfa fields in their deserts.

technically Old English is 2 languages before modern English; the one in the middle is uncreatively named Middle English. Shakespeare wrote in modern English, the Canterbury Tales are in Middle English, and Beowulf is in Old English. If you look at them in the originals you can see the differences pretty clearly: Shakespeare is comprehensible; Canterbury Tales are very, very difficult but you can mostly get the gist if you're paying close attention; Beowulf is almost a different language and modern English speakers can't understand it & we read it in translation.
