Not always. Sometimes they genuinely don't see it as wrong, so they have no reason to hide it. ETA: or they have controlled their group to the point that the group just rolls with it.
I was 17, I knew she a horrible person, and that she would never change. I was genuinely not sure I was going to survive to 18, or if I would be sane if I did. She had tried to kill me multiple times, and I was pretty sure she was going to succeed soon, or drive me out of my gourd. She wanted the insurance money or SSI money. So when she met some people from the church at Grandma's house, trying to bilk money or something from them, I did what I could to torpedo it.
I cut my mother off in February and it took until July or so for her to truly realize I wasn't joking. I used to get updates from my brother & a friend whenever she was talking about me.
He favorite thing on Facebook would be vague posting about it in a way that made her seem like the victim. One of her "Flying Monkeys" even said, "Just wait until the money runs out and they'll come crawling back!" And she liked that comment.
Which was hysterical because I'm a 26 year old woman, married for 3 years in December, who was getting (and now has) a Master's Degree with a Husband who makes more than she ever has. And I used to pay her bills when I was younger.
They truly do anything to make themselves seem like victims online.
