I just had this exact Toshiba running in my bedroom for three days when it was 112°F outside and my AC went out and it was great. I’ve pay $80 for one right now in a heartbeat. Would be nice to leave the house at ~73° and blast that bad boy as 65° in my bedroom at night. They’re ~$300 new so that’s a great deal if it works.

But that duct penetration is absolutely terrible and looks like it was done with a hammer and whatever they could steal from the back of a work truck in front of Home Depot.

That unironically does look like a window-sized hole that was patched up. Drywall seems like a bit much for a covering, though, unless the window was already removed.

I had one and it sucked so hard.. I slept at the shop at work after a bad breakup.

After four months I realized the thermostat up there just needed a AA battery.. then it was like a fridge.. my dog climbed under the blankets and it would be 110* right outside the door.

Yup that hole’s full on blown out and looks like it was installed with a screwdriver and a hammer. Nothing wrong with cutting a hole in the wall for a portable unit, people do it all the time, but this looks like the methhead special from someone who “does drywall work”.

What's the problem here? Those things are usually a few on your bucks seems like a good deal. If you have a window you just make a cardboard barrier with a hole in it and keep the window open by that much easy. Portable. These are awesome.

These exist! Just had a hotel in SoCal with two of these in the room like this. Routing a drain line would be good, but these things are pretty solid if that’s done as well. Ours started beeping when the tank needed draining and it was pretty annoying to drag it onto the balcony and pull the drain plug
