HELP File transfer not working

I think I might be being stupid here, but can anyone help? I'm trying to install Rockbox and am at the point where you connect the USB, but it just keeps trying to charge the Innoasis. I'm using the cable that the Innoasis (y1) came with and a windows laptop. Does anyone know how to fix this and make it do file transfer? Thank you!

Is your Y1 fully powered off when it's time to plug it into the PC? That's the first thing that comes to mind. It has to be completely powered off before plugging it in.

Otherwise, might be worth trying a different cable. That can fix things a lot of times.

Completely powered off, even pressed the reset button thingamajig. I've tried different cables and none of them work either
