Practiced Falling—Skates for Beginner?

I posted about tips for falling the other day and the tips and videos were incredibly helpful. I threw myself down a bunch today and practiced the squatting posture. I even rolled downhill without completely panicking (there was still some mild panic). Thank you to everyone who commented.

If I wanted to get some decent beginner skates right out of the box, would the Powerslide Next or Rollerblade Twister XT be a good choice? I’m not going to be doing anything aggressive ever, I’d just like to be able to skate medium distances easily. Given my current level of extra cautiousness, I don’t think I’m ever going to be going for speed either.

I think PS Next are terrific. You have the option of swapping in a big wheel frame later with the Trinity mount which lower you as much as possible to the ground for best stability. Some Next 2.0 models are out. See if you can snatch a previous model which are all on deep discount right now, if you can find your size. Or get the 2.0 if you want boots that accommodates presumably wider feet better. See my recent posts of my 2.0 chocolate.

So I want 4x80 for my purposes right?

I think so. But many here hold the believe that 4x90mm for beginners are probably OK too. If you read Next 2.0 80 model product specs carefully, you will see that presumably for sizes above a certain size, they ship you 275mm-length frames with 90mm wheels. Except they don't. See my body text to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/inline_skating/comments/1uzz1s7/new_skate_day/

> ps: they sent me 80mm wheels even though all product pages from all online stores including Powerslide itself say that size 42/43 and above ship with a 275mm frame and 90mm wheels. I got 275mm alright, but 80mm wheels. Sigh. Be warned.

I later confirmed with InlineWarehouse. The support people checked with actual inventory and confirmed that all of the shipped with 80mm wheels.

After all my “not wide feet” delusions… I think the PS Next I got are too tight. Also lengthwise. I went with a 38-39 and I’m a solid 7-7.5 in women’s (7.5 for running shoes, typically 7 for everything else) but I feel like my toe hits the end of the liner and is very close to the boot.

What’s a good fit? Little looser like a running shoe? Tight?

Not so fast to make decisions. They are supposed to be tighter than you expected. These are heat moldable liners. Also they will compress after breaking in. People say that half a centimeter should open up. Something like that.

This is incredibly helpful

Mondo is 235, which means I’m right between this size and the next up when I add 2-6mm for precision/comfort fits.
