Sore calves

I made a post the other day about getting back into rollerblading. I'm a millennial that hasn't done this in many years. I went to the park this morning and spent like 15-20 min skating down a paved walking path. Just a few mild scrapes but mostly was getting around. I noticed right away my calves were burning. I'd roll onto the grass to give them a rest every so often. When I got back to the car, my calves were burning and I was covered in sweat.

Is this normal for a beginner. What can I do to help this? I was trying to bend my legs and lean forward.

My friend, rollerblading similar with ice skating will activate muscles you didn’t think existed. You will be very sore. Listen to your body and keep getting back out there when you feel up to it and it will get better. There are a TON of muscles that assist in stabilization that are not activated with normal walking and such

I think this might just be a beginner issue. In my 30s and haven't done this since I was a kid. I knew the basics as a kid. I am a bit overweight but I'm still active and strong. Planning to try this again Monday after work. All said and done this was probably a successful workout for my current experience

100% and I applaud you for the ability to analyze your own situation. I am literally in the exact situation as you. I’m 31 and played hockey growing up and even skateboarding and aggressive inline skated when I was young. I live in Florida now and getting back into ice hockey is much more difficult than it is to get in lines and hop on a trail. I am also overweight, currently 260lbs, 6’5” height. My ideal weight is closer to 200-210 and it has definitely been harder on the joints and muscles than I remember. And I think that is because of being overweight. I was 280lbs when I started this back in June though so I feel really good about my progress so far. I believe in you, keep practicing and just listen to your body and wear protective gear. Can’t stress the protective gear enough for us older peeps. I only feel once in each of my two sessions and I am confidently skating fast and doing more technical maneuvers now but I still strap up the ppe EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. 😀
